Kenne reacted to tugger in Beautiful 1 day perfect next
Headed up to 1770 with a mate in his boat on Thursday destined for a few days on the great barrier Reef. We stayed in town that night got all the fuel and ice topped up then left the ramp early Friday.
The forecast was for great weather and we weren't disappointed, my mates 670 Bar crusher cruised easily to our fishing grounds.
We dropped baits down and were rewarded with a few good tuskies and red throat emperor on our early spots.
It was Graham's 1st time up there so a lot of the fish were PBs then he bagged his 1st coral trout.
The fishing continued at a steady pace of quality fish caught, we went wide looking for red emperor but found the deeper reefs dead. Back in closer it picked up again and mid afternoon the trout really come on along with quality red throat that Graham couldn't believe how hard these fish fight all the way to the boat.
Before the sun set we anchored up on a nice reef drop off in a sheltered position behind the reef. The red throat emperor and Moses perch got thick after dark and we had some fun in the shallows. We put some floating pillies out for a Spanish Mackerel on dusk but that didn't turn a reel.
The next morning we headed out deep again but it was still shut down so reefs under 50m were where the fish was. By late morning we decided to run down to Fitzroy lagoon for lunch and a swim. We hooked up to a mooring bout and jumped straight in. Graham didn't want to leave and sat on his duck board legs in the water knocking back a few cold beers.
We finally left heaven and headed back to the ramp at 30 knots and stayed another night in town before driving home.

Fitzroy lagoon at its best in the Bunker group on the Great Barrier Reef was our last stop before heading back to the ramp.

Looks pretty ordinary Mark. I am guessing that as well as those cr@p conditions, you didn’t get any decent fish and didn’t enjoy a coldie while floating in a crystal clear lagoon. Please don’t do a report because it is bound to be boring and have no good photos. 😂

Kenne reacted to Kat in Stolen Boat
You never know where it might end up! I will print some posters and take them to my fishing club meeting next Thursday. Also can put them at local boat ramps.
If they remove decals will be hard to identify. Any pics that can really identify boat and/or motor?
Sorry mate you must be gutted!
Cheers Kat

Kenne reacted to SuperHans in Ecstasy, Agony and a lesson learned
After a 20 year break from fishing I started up again this time last year (The kids gave me a charter for Christmas and catching rat kings reignited my love of fishing).
I have been targeting flathead from the shore on the Central Coast.
I heard of a beach that it is a good spot for jewfish so I thought I would give them a try (I have never caught one).
I got my live mullet and dusted off an old fibreglass beach rod and reel of similar vintage.
I started fishing about 2 pm this arvo. I had the old beach rod in a holder in the sand and a lighter rod for flicking out baits. Nothing much happened for an hour when I caught a 30cm tailor.- a nice change from flatties anyway. 40 mins later the old beach rod bent over and the reel screamed. This was no flathead or tailor. After some impressive runs I saw a silver flash in the waves and I thought that this must be a BIG tailor. It didn't jump so I knew it wasn't a salmon.
Then I got a nice look at it side on in the waves, it was a bloody jewfish! Never caught one, I was so happy. I tried to use the wash to bring it up the beach but the undertow from the shore dump was really strong. I think the fish was about 80-100cm long. You guessed it..... I should have played it out a bit more and waited and it got off in the shallow water. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't disappointed, but strangely I was quite content too because a mulloway was a first for me, I usually give my fish to the neighbour so the loss wasn't too big a deal, and I really enjoyed the fight. I'm also a bit chuffed that I hooked it during the day (so I wasn't spending a fruitless cold night on the beach).

Not the best name for people to feel comfortable giving you their spots.
Also out are “Sharefarmer” “Potraider” and “Fishkilla”.
