it was rediculously cheap so why not, i need a cheap outfit for estuaries and surf that is light and flexible, i had fairly low expectations but it seems surprisingly useable, the rod is light and flexible, the reel despite being of fairly cheap quality seems quite functional, i will use this reel until the warranty runs out and then probably use my jarvis walker 6500 that i use on the big 12 ft. the line on the reel is very thick, probably 30 ib, not very good quality line, i have some 12 ib mono to spool onto it. i don't go to the beach very often so it should last a while

The only rod n reel which can take a beating without worrying about it. 

Only advise I can point out is change the reel to the j.w asap the kmart reels are complete cr@p -  once in the sand makes it a grinding mess..

today for $20 i bought a little box that had 33 sinkers, 44 hooks a bunch of jig heads, jigs and soft plastics, and to top it all off 

it came with a 5 ft, 6" rod with a 2000 size reel, the line was rubbish, too thick so i spooled some left over 8ib braid (probably worth more that the reel) $20 why not !, it's main use would be redfin in the lake, it can easily fit in my school bag.
