ellicat reacted to kmcrosby78 in NRL 2022
Thanks Brian, I added a symbol but still no good. Seems to accept my details but when I then click on my preferred NRL team and click Next (or Submit or whatever the button is) it comes up with an error. Perhaps it doesn't like Broncos fans ....... 🤨. I will try again tomorrow.

No dramas for me, Kelvin. I had some issues last year as the password requires you to use a symbol e.g. $ sign. Maybe give that a go.

ellicat reacted to Junky in Back into fishing after a while: discovering what's around Canberra
Welcome mate.
Can't help with Canberra fishing. I've never been there.
I heard there's a lot of trucks around there though. 😜

If you're ever in Cleveland call in and see Pete at mossips.
He makes up these beach fishing rig using a Sputnik sinker and a release clip that releases your hook when it hits the water.
Works well in theory, but I still haven't caught a fish on it. Only used it once though, in really sloppy main beach straddie surf.

Not sure how Eric Grothe snuck into the team ahead of Brent Tate 😂

Has anyone tried the free 'Pick 'em' competition on the NRL site ?
With a $100K up for grabs each week, you'd be mad not to give it a go.
I'm going to win it this week, by the way. It is a shared prize so if you could wait until Round 2 that'd be appreciated.

ellicat reacted to Hweebe in first time offshore
As @ellicat says just get the hours / time on the water. Ask a few more questions after a dealer looks / fixes and issue so if it happens on the water you may be able to fix as well.
Invest in a service manual for your outboard and have some basic tools on board.
Coastguard or VMR is a no brainer and I would never go boating without it.

A couple of hours boating in the river to get the confidence in the motor, would be my suggestion.
Then join the Coastguard or VMR so you have a backup plan if it does play up. It's cheap insurance at around $80 a year.

ellicat reacted to Gad in NRL 2022
Okay, here we go for 2022.
As most will be aware NSW ( from our border down past Sydney and coastal inland areas) is at present having some major Qld type, rain event and devastating flooding that comes with these events. I'm sure all our thoughts are with those affected.
I've checked the NRL site and could not see any venue changes for any of the games this round. May I suggest with the continuing rain and flooding down there, we all keep an eye and ear out for the possibility of game venue changes.
Which ever way this goes I 'd have a wild guess and say the known mud larks are all in with a chance.
My big tip for Drop Bear and Greg. Storm, Storm, Storm they have never lost an NRL Round 1 game... YET 🤣
Good luck to my fellow tipsters

Well isn't that a summer full of fishing!!! @Old Scaley I can tell you it took a long time to write. It seemed he was on this report for days banging away on the laptop. We told him it would conquer most readers! Anyway great stories for the 2021/22 summer holidays. Given the number of bust offs and misses on the real fish I'm certainly feeling guilty about the poor netting attempt that would have at least seen another threadfin officially caught (although as I say to Hamish at least he has video footage and the fish was good as caught..) Hopefully next summer there will be a higher conversion rate on the good ones. On the plus side all the riding towing a buggy has done marvels for his fitness level......

Plenty of dart and whiting to be had pretty much from coolum up through to sunshine beach. You can usually just poke around and find pipis to use for bait too depending on tide. I've always found whiting go for those. I've never landed a tailor or anything bigger than a dart or whiting although sometimes have been busted off by something bigger so i'm sure they're there.

ellicat got a reaction from Another Wazza in Replace tow vehicle or not - opinions please
For what it's worth, as a bean counter I say you're better off, in a non-deductible car, to spend $5K on repairs to get everything up to speed now than to spend $30K - $40K that will lose $5K in value 6 months after you buy it. Especially so if the body and engine are ticking along nicely as well as the aircon of course. Insurance will also be cheaper on the existing car.

We’ll done Hamish and Charlie. Your youthful enthusiasm and dedication to fishing never cease to amaze. Reminds of my times growing up on the Brisbane and Bremer river. I get stoked every time I see one of your reports and that golden threads colour pops up well done!!

ellicat got a reaction from Drop Bear in sabiki rod for catching live bait
I have one and they are great !
You could probably use any old rod to do the same, but these rods keep those little hooks from catching everything they touch. You can get the rigs in different sizes so make sure you get some with small hooks for herring (I use #6). Any brand works so go the cheapies imo.

Well, I finished it all (in 3 sittings lol). You've gotta be in it to win it, Hamish.
No idea what that hole is but there looks to be a few holes, so you never know. I couldn't make out that 3rd pic in that series - could it be a mud skipper ?
Some fun sessions and a lot of recon missions will see you being a river master in the coming years.

Thanks Ed. I will give it a crack, hopefully I can get something decent!
Thanks Brian. I've never heard of long toms in the surf. I don't mind a few dart so I'll try and do one session in the surf. I will make some berley and use that at the rocks if I end up going to them.
Cheers Hamish
