@Luvit, did you put this up just to drive the rest of us insane with jealousy? First, the boat envy, then the location envy followed by the drone envy. Then, to really tip us over the edge, you slip in a reference to an upcoming trip to the Kimberley! You are a cruel, cruel man Wayne.

queensland Need Help Identifying Fish - Brisbane River
Old Scaley replied to Carl of Arabia's topic in Freshwater
I can’t remember what time of the year it was, but last year they were schooled up in front of the tug station at Port of Brisbane. There was a little group of boats pulling them in hand over fist. I did mention it in a post but I can’t find that now. -
Looks great @leigh123. Congrats on the boat, the fish and the squid! I love the photo of the squid. Is that motor a Johnson?
-
Congrats Wayne. I am sure you will get a lot of business from people on this site. Good luck with it.

Nice report @kmcrosby78, sounds like something for everyone in the family. I know your boys want to take that grinner mantle away from you, but I think @benno573 is the new holder of that title. He and I had a good session over at Mud on Saturday morning and he landed some stonker grinner, most of which ended up in the crab pots. No time to do a report today (and no photos) but we (more specifically Benno) ended up with a good cod, one good pan sized snapper, a 50cm flathead, a couple of legal tuskies and 3 sandies out of 8 pots.

How good were the Broncos and how bad were the Panthers.

@ellicat, I am surprised you didn’t tip your beloved Tigers last night. I thought they were the better team for 95% of the game. We should have a rule that you have to tip your nominated favourite team.. I always tip the 3 Queensland teams which means that most weeks I am starting from -3 but at least I can watch the games and not be hoping they lose. Tipping Broncos over Chooks tonight but expect to be disappointed again. Fair chance Cowboys and Titans could win so this could be a good week for me.

^^ Same for me @Drop Bear. Being loyal is more important than winning a tipping comp. the Broncos will start to get some easier matches, the Cowboys will hit some form sometime, and the law of averages says the Titans have to have a win soon.

History Of The Dredging Of The Brisbane River
Old Scaley replied to a topic in Politics and Environment
Thanks Ron. That was interesting. Glad they decided to leave the boat passage there. -
This game was a bit like some of the other games this weekend. Hard to get anything out of them because the conditions were so poor. Hard to win a game without halves and both teams looked pretty ordinary. Storm and Rabbits were definitely the standout teams this weekend.

Hi MSB, you will love Straddie. We go there a couple of times a year. Sometimes I take the fishing gear if it is only me and Mrs Scaley but mostly I just enjoy the great walks around the headland and having a quiet swim at Cylinder beach. When I was in my teens and early twenties I used to surf and fish at Pt Lookout. I am way too old to negotiate those rocks now but there are smaller and easier points at Frenchman’s and Deadman’s beaches. It is a bit of a hike to get down to so travel light and go early morning or late arvo to beat the heat. Beautiful beaches to walk along if the fishing is quiet. If you have a fourby and a beach driving permit you will find gutters all along the Eastern beach. If you are on foot you will probably have to walk a long way to the first gutter. Cylinder Beach looks promising but I have never caught a fish there. Great place for a swim. There are some nice easy spots on the beach between Amity and Flinders. You can park at the beach jump off track and walk to nice calm water with lots of dolphins and other critters to entertain you while you fish. Bait and tackle are hard to find at Point Lookout, but there is Tweed Bait at the Foodworks. There is an excellent bait and tackle shop at Dunwich where you can get live worms, yabbies and other fresh bait as well as some good advice and chat (as long as the guy that owns it hasn’t sold in the last 6 months). The shop is hard to miss. It is on the right side of the road as you are heading out of Dunwich towards Point Lookout. You can pump yabbies at either Dunwich or Amity and get puppies along Main Beach. I hope this helps. Have a great trip.

I remember finding that rock bar (and not in a good way) in my old boat that didn’t have a sounder on my first exploration of Tingalpa Creek. Took my revenge by fluking a nice little jack on bream gear off said rock bar. Used to be some interesting craft moored on that creek as well. Congrats on the jewie and thanks for sharing.

Vintage Solid Glass Rods ,and Side Cast Reels ,
Old Scaley replied to Carp koori's topic in Tackle, Rods and Reels
I still have 3 Snyder Glas surf rods with Alveys (1 heavy and 2 light surf rods that I bought for my boys when they were young). I still love surf fishing with Alveys and rinsing the sand out of them in the surf. Also have a Wilson Heritage 8 foot rod that I bought when I was feeling nostalgic for the old school rods a few years ago. I thought I would keep it for blackfish or bream fishing with bait but don’t do much of of this sort of fishing. It certainly feels weird after using the modern rods. -
I think I saw $15 for adults Robbie.

White Spot Disease Expose 4 Corners
Old Scaley replied to rayke1938's topic in Politics and Environment
It was a bit scary. Sounds like the govt has got no chance of beating the corruption and dodgy practices in the seafood import industry. Very sad. -
What an experience. Couple of questions (getting in ahead of the crowd). Are the fish in the second photo in @aussie123 report hardy heads? And, how good did those smoked mangrove jack taste @Bi_polar? They look incredible.

Ok, then fluid view it is. Which is pretty appropriate really

Mostly forum activity and unread content. Not sure if this table, grid or fluid??
