  1. @kmcrosby78 Not sure on length , Would had been in the high 80cm bracket It was quite long but didn't have much weight, It ended up weighing in @ 6.8kg. The angle the pic was taken on make the fish look taller than it I should I reckon.
  2. You just got to take your opportunities when you can mate... that's my 4th trip in 2 weeks... around 30hrs fishing time for one solid fish. 3 trips for zilch. Glad my wife is patient.
  3. Hi, All, Headed out into the bay the other arvo in not so good conditions looking for a few early season big bay snapper. Grab some live baits headed to some slightly deep water for the bay. Got set up and started some drifts. Around 4pm I hooked a good fish that ran pretty hard and dropped the hooks cold, so we marked that spot and proceeded to drift this area in hope of another bite... another 1&1/2 hrs later and finally enticed one to grab a livie and keep the hooks in it. Few seconds after hooking mine .my mate hooked up as well. . Few moments later my mate netted my fish, then I his followed , put my fish in the esky and release his hoping for an upgrade later in the evening. Managed another fish similar size which was realised also as we had plenty for a feed.... About 7.30pm headed for the ramp in solid 15knot southerly. Cheers Josh <><
  4. @Hannah6 Id be keeping an eye out on gumtree, facebook, & garage sales in you local areas,
  5. Yeah Mate, Shallow Tempest, Roberts Shoal, Some very good ground South of Henderson Rock also.
  6. HI @Ariat Fishing Y/Patch not really a known snapper spot to be honest mate., More your pelagic fish like Mackerel & Cobia are caught in that area. You would be best looking South of Cape Moreton for some gravel/hard or Kelp weed bottom in 30-35m of water for good snapper at this time of year. Anchor up, deploy burley - float baits out & hang on. Best to fish in a very light Northerly Breeze ( less than 10konts so you have wind & current running in the same direction to make anchoring easier. Plenty of different reef structure down along that way that hold fish day & night , Its just a matter of trial n error. Good Luck, Cheers Josh <><
  7. Good eating size snapper mate, Well done. I know the feeling , leave the rod for a split second to have a drink, pee or re-rig another rod and a rod always screams off. I had a mate catch a 10.3kg one night on one of my rod & reel combos when I asked him to hold my rod whilst I helped sort out another guy land a good knobby on our boat - Only for him to get hooked up and quietly land a trophy. I'm sure there will be a few guys trying to get a few before we have snapper "Lockdown" Snapper fever time is not far away now Cheers Josh <><
  8. I use C-Maps @ellicat, Also use the Boating HD phone app for greater in-depth details, Both seem to work in conjunction together very well. Cheers Josh.
  9. Perfect Little Jack boat for the little creeks around 1770 & Bundy.
  10. Good work @kmcrosby78 Sounds like your spot has some potential to hold good fish , How is the current in this location ? Finding wire weed patches in the bay is sometimes very rewarding especially once you work out when the fish move in to feed . , Wont be long now and Moreton bay will be in full swing with solid snapper / Cobia and other good fish. Cheers Josh <><
  11. Hi Greg, I use the Shimano Thunnus 12000 Ci4 for my snapper fishing in the bay & in the shallows off shore., In my opinion they are a must have for Moreton bay snapper when fishing slow tidal movement areas. Pretty heavy to have as casting reel for your pelagic fish. you would be better suited to a 4000 or 5000 Stradic or similar for that. I'm not personally big on braid with these types of baitrunner reels and tend to stick to 20--30lb mono. But everybody has a preference. Cheers Josh ><>
  12. Good Advice @Allnighter ,I am the same , I love catching my baits on the way to the area's I am fishing, gives you the best chance possible at getting one ,
  13. Bump this one up. Plans for 2020 are changing and need it gone. Might even sell it with a few bay snapper marks to a lucky AFO member
  14. How Did you find the deep water national park track - Pretty easy ? @tugger heading up in January 2020 for 7 days with the family.
  15. Yeah mate, Ill be going, Not sure if we are going to head south of cape moreton or head to Caloundra Wide area, Take good notice of your line once clear of skirmish point as the Western Banks are high dry for a good 1.5km to the NNE,
  16. Thanks for clarifying that @aussie123that makes sense to me now...
  17. I agree with you there @jon snapper at 45cm min and pearlies at 40cm would be good.... it will be tough going for the boys who drive 6hrs to 1770 to fish for 20 fish max .... Some guys put alot of time and money into those trips. Mind you 20 fish in the esky looks bloody great. I wonder how they got data to think a 1 month ban was the solution.
  18. I woke up this morning read this and looked at the calendar thinking it was some sick and twisted April fools joke. .
  19. Its crazy that they went out, that wind was howling all of Saturday night, fingers crossed they are safe. I was on the water last night and there is heaps of debris already in the middle of the bay . Keep a eye out when travelling at night guys , we almost hit a few decent floating objects heading home in the dark.
  20. I got the 575 Profisher Centre Console I looked a the Bar Crushers, Extremes. Stabi's and every time I was just drawn back to the Surtees. Simple lay out. The Qld dealer was A1 with there service. I also dealt with the head sales manager at Surtees in NZ that new his product and he understood the conditions Moreton bay produced and they accomodated just about every thing i asked for. The other dealers and brands where just too interested in getting me to sign a contract with out answering any questions
  21. When I had my 4m tinny I spent a lot of weekends launching from different locations to fish they bay pending wind directions & tides, So I was always driving from different angles covering lots of areas of the bay to fish Bulwer , curtain artificial, spitfire channel , Mud island etc, then from there it was a matter of just trial and error, talking with guys at boats ramps, using the fishing forums for info and keeping a massive excel spreadsheet of my fishing trip details on moon phases ,tides, water temps and times fish were caught for bite period times , Finding new ground in the bay isn't easy, Id say a lot of luck and lot of hours returning home with donuts , This year is my 18th snapper season in a row and I'm finally getting results, I use the Boating HD app on my phone these days , Lowrance GPS for Navionics & a HDS9 Gen 3 sounder on my Surtees which is all standard easy to use stuff , The only thing I do is when I find a spot I will run over and around this spot 5 or 6 times from all angles to see if its legit or not. From there I generally throw a bait jig on and see what baits holding in that area , from there Ill fish it for a while or ill come back at another stage when I think fish might be on the chew and see what happens But best thing is to be on the water lots trialing different techniques to chase big fish.
  22. Bit of both mate. Been getting them in day light. Night's, arvos & early morning. Different spots and techniques. Last season all fish in the 7kg bracket and higher come in the day time. This year has been mixed with 6,7 and 8kg fish coming at all times of the day
