I don't like my Motorguide. I cant review any other brands but the paint fell off it within a few months and its hard to put up and down and the lock down has given me trouble. perhaps chat with one of the bass legends as they have a lot of experience?

Hi guys,
thinking of upgrading from a paddle kayak to a pedal. Any one who has a pedal kayak, just want to know if it is worth the extra cost, as some brands can be quite $$$
Hobie are obviously the benchmark, but there seems to be other brands with a similar pedal that a bit cheaper such as the pedal pro plus
Any advice would be welcome
Cheers
@benno573 @AUS-BNE-FISHO anyone else a yaker?

Bramston beach
Thanks mate. The first day is a big drive so I like the idea of having an option to pull up early or keep going a bit longer depending on how we are feeling.
Is it worth soaking some baits out off the beach there?

NSW now has introduced 36 to 70cm on Flathead just like QLD has had for a while now.
I have not been privy to the science but if it makes it a healthier fishery and we all get to eat flatties I am all for it. Many years ago, before the slot limits and before I knew about flathead changing sex, I caught and ate a 97cm version. Full of roe.... Skin was tough as nails and the meat was hard and not very tasty. I have eaten large whiting (45cm) and it was similarly not very delicious. I don't do this now.
Anyone got info/opinion on the breeding of big female flatties and if slot limits are doing their job?

Hey man,
I stayed there in 2017 the night of Parramatta vs Cowboys semi final was awesome atmosphere and pizza was fantastic and the beer was cold. Camped up the back past the green huts. Showers and toilets were great after a long day driving CREB track.
Ripper thanks. We will stay there then. We are having a very short day with a bit of exploring. They don't take bookings so will just find a spot.

Mate that is some nice fishing. Well done.
Do the tuskies hang around all year?

That is very cool. I am amazed they come out to the bay and go from river to river. So good. Thanks for posting.

There can be good diver whiting in the creek but generally it is pretty lousy as a fishing location. The foreshore however can be great.
Plenty of Bream and Whiting cruse the banks at high tide. A bit of worm will entice a few bites.
A bit further south, the other side of the wading pool, is a great spot for flicking small top water lures for bream and the occasional well travelled flathead. Start about 200 m from the wading pool and walk south around the courner.
At night at high tide many squid fishers don the headlamps and walk the foreshore and catch a good amount of squid.
Also the rock wall at Manly is very popular and turn up trevally and the Tailor should be starting to turn up.
Good luck

I just got an alvey reel which is very limited in retrieving line quickly. I would say it is much slower than an average spin reel. So I Just wondering how an alvey fisherman fight a big fish like threadfin salmon which take heaps of lines in a second.
Is this the inherent weakness of design which all tackles maker know and do not make similar products ( they probably can make something similar if they want to since relevant patents expired long ago. ) what is your thought?
Btw, the alvey reel i bought can not fit in my generic rods, so consider this post my vent
Hey Sunny boy,
Fair points. Your rant is understandable.
While I have caught fish on them throwing slugs off the rocks I wouldn't recommend it for the faint hearted. I agree with you that they really are not a lure casting type reel unless you just want to tea bag a vibe or something.
I have caught loads of large fish on them, It is quite an art to pay out line and not burn your fingers or get your knuckles wrapped by the handles. We would have a wet piece of towel on the ready if a Cobia took a bait and held it against the line as the reel spun away. Exciting stuff.
I still love to use them on the beach and fishing for things like whiting in the bay but overheads and threadlines are a lot easier and drags are smoother for trolling or reef fishing. The organic nature of being one to one with a fish has a strong appeal to me. I am sad they have called it a day, and thankfully that they gave it a good second stab over the past 3 years or so, but glad that I have a pretty solid collection that will see me out.

It is very sad. I have used Alvey reels for about 50 years now and still love them.
What a blight on the way we do stuff. They make them too good and go out of business...
I have an Alvey yabby pump... bought it one night when I had caught a few reds (wines not emperor). Not sure why I need a titanium one... Perhaps it will be worth a lot one day?

oh no. Sorry mate. I reckon you can claim that one as a catch and release. Keep at it, it sounds like persistence is the only thing between you and your goal.

My brother in law did this over at the sandhills... it was about 2 hours after high tide... they spent the day watching the tide go out... then the tide come in... it got dark ant they had to ring VMR to guide them in as they have very limited boating experience and didn't want to hit anything... I imagine conversations like. "What is that red flashing light?" " I think it means stay away"

Good luck Robbie, I hope you're reeling one in as I type (procrastinating from doing school reports ........ ).
We got a few bream (on the 8/0 circle hooks!) and a few under sized snapper but it was very very quiet...
