Good work Ray. -
Sad to see that these have made their way into some waterways, I have seen photos of a couple people catching them.

Great work @Another Wazza. Lots of good fish there.

Great looking rod and great tailor Neil.

I only catch small fish & Bream? What am i doing wrong?
AUS-BNE-FISHO replied to Bobby W's topic in Saltwater
I would suggest changing things up, try live baits, lighter weighted baits around structure, lighter line, bigger baits, or soft plastic lures.- 11 replies

Thanks Brian, sounds like a partly successful session in the bay. Melbourne was alright, I think the casino would’ve been more fun than all the shopping I had to do. Thanks for the tips mangajack. My Dad and I were actually fishing there and the two fish we caught were with unweighted baits so it’s good to know some bigger fish can be caught. Ill be up again in Winter but I think I’ll be limited to Double Heads unfortunately instead of Corio Bay because I Won’t have a car. Shame about the dud squid session KM, and yep I’ve packed a rod but so far no luck. Mainly just relaxing this trip though due to the cold weather haha. Fishing license or drivers license? I’ll have my L’s in May so I’m pretty excited about that Ray.

Hi all, I drove up to Yeppoon last Thursday for a quick visit. After arriving late Thursday arvo, my Dad and I decided to go for a fish at the Causeway later that night as there was a run through tide. It was still pretty crowded just before 10, but there weren't any fish getting caught. My Dad and I alternated the lures we were using for the next hour and a half but after no bites we decided to call it quits. The next morning I didn't go fishing, but in the afternoon I went out to Double Heads. Unfortunately, the wind was very strong and the water was a bit brown, so I didn't bother fishing. My Dad and I then went to Ross Creek, where we also caught nothing except a large stingray which my Dad hooked that put up a good fight. The next morning we decided to give the harbor a crack. We caught some livies and tried a couple of spots, and ended up on the rockwall at the mouth of the harbour. We didn't have much success here, but my Dad did hook up to a decent fish (probably a cod) which broke him off in some of the rocks. We were a bit more hopeful about this spot now so decided to try there the next day, because it was still very windy. The next morning we repeated the same thing, where this time my Dad caught an undersize cod. Things were still very quiet and windy though. We also flicked plenty of lures around but no hookups. The next morning we came back to this spot and I caught one bream, so it was also very quiet. A bit unsure what to do to try and get a bite, my Dad and I decided to have a flick with some lures around the harbour later that night, which resulted in nothing except a very long sleep in the next morning. We tried in the harbour again that arvo with some smaller plastics and soft vibes but no bites once again. Overall, although it was a quiet trip, it was still good to try some fishing up in Yeppoon. I'm going to Victoria today so won't be able to fish in the river that much this holidays unfortunately. Cheers, Hamish.

A decent overseas tackle website?
AUS-BNE-FISHO replied to GregOug's topic in Tackle, Rods and Reels
Nice reel Greg and nice bargain too. -
Welcome to the forum Brenton. If you’re in the area I would suggest stopping by Yeppoon for a fish during Winter, you could try trolling around some of the headlands near the Rosslyn Bay Harbour for some mackerel. Otherwise the Fitzroy River would probably be worth a look too.

Good stuff @mangajack. Do you ever see any threadfin feeding under the lights when the tailor are there?

Hi all, I haven't fished much over the last couple of months as I have been busy with school. Luckily, I'm on holidays next week and I did manage to get out for a couple of casts this weekend. The first session was a few weeks ago and I don't actually remember when exactly. I went down to my local park after school and attempted to catch a few livebaits. There were already people fishing there surprisingly, but I figured I had to catch a bit of bait before I bothered putting a line out. Unfortunately, I couldn't manage anything in my net after 45 minutes of casting, which although no surprise (the river was very dirty from all the rain) was still a bit disheartening. I flicked a soft plastic around for the remainder of the session to no avail so headed home before it was even dark. The next session was at the local park again. I got down a bit after 4 on Friday arvo, and had a few throws with my net. A lot of small prawns were around, so after catching a few I sent some out on the hook. I spent the next couple of hours catching some more prawns, a bullrout, and a couple of catties, but nothing particularly noteworthy. It was still good to go out and have a couple of bites though. Stats of Trip: Tide: Low tide change Moon Phase: 93% Bait Caught/Used: Prawns Fish Caught: Catties Air Pressure: 1013 Humidity: 63% Overall Success Rate: 20% Then this morning, my Dad and I went for a paddle at a spot where we thought we might have a chance of catching a thready on a lure. We launched at about 5 and arrived at the spot while it was still dark. A couple big fish were smashing bait off the surface, which was a good sign, but I couldn't tempt anything with my Zerek Pyra lure. We continued onwards, and as we went into the spot we spooked another fast fish that seemed a bit too big to be a mullet. A few more casts later for nothing and the sun was up, which also meant the tide had started to trickle in. My Dad and I each casted around for another 2 hours or so, hearing a few boofs. We even caught some live bait and drifted around with that, but we didn't manage anything at all, which was a bit disappointing because I saw a photo of a guy who caught one here the Arvo before. Oh well, next time. Stats of Trip: Tide: Low tide change Moon Phase: 99.5% Lures: Megabass R Oneten, Zerek Pyra, Live bony bream Fish Caught: - Air Pressure: 1013 Humidity: 88% Overall Success Rate: 40% Cheers, Hamish.

Can we all pray to the weather gods for a break from this damn wind
AUS-BNE-FISHO replied to Huxstang's topic in Saltwater
There’s a lot of jetties, pylons, deep rock formations and eddies, deep holes that are 20+m, creeks, and lots of mud banks as well. -
I’ve never caught much on soft plastics except a small zman grub in motor oil with a jig spinner, my favourite two lures for bass are a RMG Scorpion 35 in Golden Green or a Duo Cicada surface lure. I’m sure plenty of different lures would work though. Good luck.
-
I use a 2-4KG rod for bass fishing, so seeing as yours is 4-8lb which is basically the same thing I would say it is suitable. I use 8 pound braid and ten pound leader and haven't been busted off yet.
-
Hi Peter, being a shorter rod I would say it would be better suited to accurately casting lures/baits short distances, maybe in a creek or kayak fishing.

AUS-BNE-FISHO replied to Huxstang's topic in Saltwater
You could always try upstream in the river, maybe not where the city cats are running, but I’m sure you’d find plenty of interesting things around Indooroopilly or jindalee with the live scope. -
Line thickness, advantage or disadvantage?
AUS-BNE-FISHO replied to Bob9863's topic in Tackle, Rods and Reels
I definitely prefer thinner braid, though due to price I have switched from using Diawa jbraid x8 or Penn braid to Hercules Braid from EBay, which although a bit thicker is only 20 bucks for 300 meters of 8 strand. -
