Kenne reacted to Kat in 1st Offshore trip in C-Jay - Multiple Mackerel, Flatties and Snapper!
Last Tuesday the fishing weather gods aligned and the BF managed to get the day off work.  We headed to the GC Seaway departing from South Maclean about 2.30am.  Unfortunately had a couple of stops to make before launching at the Spit boat ramp so the sun was already coming up when we launched.  The bar crossing was a non-event as the weather, tide and swell was almost perfect.  I logged our trip by phone - my first time logging a trip.  The plan was to return about 3pm.
We headed to the 36 fathoms found a bait ball on the sounder and I dropped my Sabiki bringing up a minimum of four slimy mackerel each drop.  Once I had dropped the bait jig three times we decided we had enough live bait for the time being.  We dropped a live bait and another two rigs with squid at the same spot.  No joy.
We hit another mark or two close by and did a drift or two, again with no joy!
It was difficult to find bottom, the current was raging through despite the reports otherwise.
We decided to head back in a little and fished one of the FAD's.  My first drop I felt a couple of small taps, felt like I might have had a couple of bait fish on (Paternoster rig with two dropper hooks - No. 5/0 for snapper).  Pulled up a baby flatty and another barely legal (the latter released to the Esky to accompany the whiting fillets in the freezer).
The next few drops we both pulled up small flatties.  Other smaller reef fish were landed and then the BF got wrapped around the FAD by an unidentified fish.
We decided to move further in and head South East to a couple of marks.  The first mark produced some decent snapper after a few drifts, my PB, which measured 50cm on the boat and had shrunk a couple of cm by the time he hit the Bragmat!  I also got a 37cm one and a couple of unders.  The BF got a couple of unders, a 60cm (again it had shrunk by the time it hit the Bragmat).  On the last drift the BF hooked a monster that he swears was a Snapper, it peeled off the drag and unfortunately the hook pulled.  I have never heard so many choice words erupting from his mouth!  The F word continued every few minutes all the way home!  Lol.  All of you know this feeling I am sure.
For the first time offshore on C-Jay with no marks of our own I thought the trip was very successful - I feel another addiction coming on!

Reminds me of when, years ago, I left some lures to dry on the table on our back deck, and my wife called out to me the next morning in horror because our golden retriever had a treble hook stuck in his bottom lip (just the treble - he'd managed to straighten the split ring trying to get it out of his lip ....... 😬. If he could speak he would have argued that the punishment didn't fit the crime because we decided, seeing as though we had to pay an anaesthetist, that  we may as well have him de-sexed at the same time ........
He's forgiven me and has managed to live to the grand old age of 11 and counting so all's well that ends well ........ 😁.

Hi. I have a 2006 115 Yamaha 4 stroke which I have owned for almost 10 years. A couple of years ago after consulting the manual I decided to flush it using the inline attachment on the motor. Did this for about 12 months.

About 12 months ago I started using saltaway and returned to using the ear muffs to flush.
Today I had the motor serviced. Two of the three water jacket anodes were so badly corroded and salted up it took an hour to remove them. Luckily no apparent damage to the head at this time.
My mechanic who I have been using for a long time said the 6-12 months I used the flush attachment was enough to salt up and seize the anodes. You could see the saltaway residue where it had started to clear the salt but it had a big job to do.
Morale 1 of the story: The flush port on the motor is designed to ensure planned obselecense and should not be used.
Moral 2 to the story: Only ever flush your engine in a drum or with ear muffs
Mechanic said he had seen motors at 100hrs so badly corroded due to owners only using the flushing port that they had to be written off.
Now I have had a boat for most of the last 45 years and except for that short period I referred to above, have always flushed in a drum or with ears. No more using the flush port for me as today I dodged a very expensive bullet.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for all the thoughts, although I suggested the 'missus' issue to her and I'm now writing this from my hospital bed...;-)....I don't think that was so helpful...:-)
I did the testing both up and down the river in very calm conditions to exclude water/environment.
The motor is a new 60hp Yamaha. It does have a sacrificial trim tab which is offset to the RHS about 8 degrees- this is the recommended setting afaik. Also afaik the trim tab impacts the steering rather than any list/heel.
I undid the bungs after the test and there was no water in hulls.
I've heard back from Brisbane Yamaha and they want the boat back to do their own tests- bring on the unlockdown....given the boat is new not much I want to fiddle with. Anyway will let you all know one day...

I have a 4.2 runabout with a 40 H Mercury 2stroke. I've found at times it will lean over to port side at times but over come it with the trim. Some days does it some days don't. Has never done it off shore tho only going in the broad water or rivers. Can do 30knts/55ks without leaning but at times it does. I put it down to a combination of weather conditions, tide, prop torq ,trim and how you drive to those conditions.

Dusted the cobwebs off my boat (shamefully I hadn’t used it since school started back in January... 🤨) and took my Dad, brother and my two sons Liam (9) and George (6) out on Monday morning at gentleman’s hour. Launched from Manly and headed straight to the eastern side of Green Island to drift for arrow squid and cuttlefish. Had a southwesterly wind and an outgoing tide which worked well.
Successful mission with 20 caught in total with a range of jig colours. We missed plenty with either huts that didn’t connect or they were on for most of the way but dropped off before the boat. Liam managed to snare two that dropped off but stayed within sight which was cool to see - doesn’t say much for the intelligence of cuttlefish though .... 🤔. Had one jig  lose it’s life to a green sea toadfish, luckily only a cheap one.
Then tried fishing but tide had turned so wind against tide which with five POB wasn’t ideal. I got one legal tuskfish, the rest all throwbacks.

I took Liam and George again Tuesday morning and we got another 7 so a few nice feeds for our extended family. Again tried fishing but first spot we were harassed by a huge school of striped trumpeter and when we moved we kept getting bitten clean off by probably green sea roads - grrrr!!!!
Was great to be out on the water again and quality time spent with family.  Would encourage others to nab some of these tasty critters - just drift around east of Green Island  in 6m+ and you should find them - yum!!!

Kenne reacted to Kat in Katfish. Good name for my first boat?
Hi All.  Long time no reports.  Been fishing quite a bit but also some part time work keeping me busy.  Combine my addiction and work and there is no time left to do the AFO thing.
Anyway, thought I would let you all know that @GregOug is a champion and gave me the lead on a boat "for sale" that hadn't even gone on the market.  I was fishing with him in the bay a few of weeks ago and mentioned that I was expecting the payout on an insurance policy soon and was looking at getting something as close to 5 metres as I could, preferably with a centre console.  Well blow me down two hours after I was told the money was in the bank Greg texted and said he had found a centre console that might just be right for me.
We arranged a viewing last Friday Greg accompanying me and I then managed a test drive on Wednesday.  Was supposed to be Tuesday but thank god my luck seems to have turned and it was postponed til Wednesday (not sure the test drive would have worked out in the storm at 10am on Tuesday!).
I took a fishing mate with me on Wednesday who lives up the road and after the test drive we drove to the bank got a bank cheque and towed the boat home.
There have been a couple of hiccups with the deal that are stressing me out and will cost me a little more but I am told by everyone who knows anything about boats that I got a bargain.
So today I took my mate (he is licensed and I am not 🐱) for a run to the "Mile" just off the Broadwater and then headed down to Jumpinpin.
Stressful but great day and the boat handles amazingly (bit what the heck do I know).
Got some good sized whiting, my first leather jacket, my mate got a tailor and a stingray.
Thanks also to @deegee12g (Don) who spent time talking to me about the various boats he has owned and fished in, and suggested I look for a centre console!
Now I suppose I am auditioning for deckies who have their license and are willing to put themselves in danger by letting me skipper the boat - oh and can teach me what on earth to do - ha ha.
The advice from the boat licensing places are to get some experience before booking in and taking the tests.
I am glad that my first day out was not a 🍩.
P.s. the Bimini is the first thing coming off the boat - who wants a centre console with a Bimini?  Surely it defeats the purpose.
Formosa 4.75 - 4.8m, Suzuki 80HP with 24 hours on the clock! 12 inch Lowrance (older model), electric trailer winch etc etc.
    THANK YOU GREG!!!!!!!!!
