Just been browsing YouTube on fishing related stuff, (yeah, I know, big mistake!) anyway came across this rod build, it is the most labour intensive rod build I have ever seen,  don't know if the rod is any good as a fishing rod but it is a work of art, shiny! I certainly don't have the patience to do such a build and I would be too scared in case I scratched it to use it after it was finished.
The video goes for about 20 minutes in length.

Depends... for me it’s a confidence and feel thing. If I’m fishing an area I know and am using a lure I’ve had success with before I’ll probably persist longer than if I was prospecting a new area. That being said, I’ve had days where I have used about 12 or 15 different lures and still caught ef all.

And I don’t think I’ve caught a truly noteworthy fish for probably 2-3 years so shut up. 🙄

Well,  headed out to Green Island solo today to see if the snaps have arrived yet.
Water starting to clear after all the recent rain and water temp dropping nicely.
It wasnt exactly flat this afternoon, the northerly seemed to kick up a bit more than predicted or so it seemed.
Was a bit of a hard slog to gather bait though, i spent 4 loooong hours before scraping together enough bait for a snapper session.
4 hours gathering bait, for a 2 hour fishing session at spot x in 6 metres of water.
Well the good news is the snaps are back around the bay shallows again !
     1 @ 65cm and 1 @ 80cm...
Happy with 2 for a feed, so i decided to head back in before dusk.

    Just a quick report.
I have been fishing a bit lately.
There are heaps of cuttlefish around at the moment. They like to sit on the weed beds around wellington point through to the north of Green Island.
The tip is to put a sinker on your squid jigs, get it to the bottom and wind up. Make sure you are bouncing off the bottom. There are no snags to worry about. They seem to like 7 - 10 meters of water.
I had a trip out to the ledge on the southern end of green the other night. We fished for a few hours without loosing a bait. Then, just after the 4 other boats left, they turned on a the turn of the tide. Lots of little snapper/squire. We caught about 10 or so but they were only small. There were a few legal ones in the mix but we didn't keep any. I don't tend to keep them unless they are over 45cm as you don't get much off them at the legal size of 35cm. We used the squid and cuttlefish we had caught earlier but we caught most of the fish on squid from the fish shop at Capalaba. Could have eaten the squid.
Then this little legend came along.

It went about 115 cm, hard to be accurate with that ruler haha. We hooked onto a larger version soon after but after about 30mins it simply spat the hook. Oh well.
The theory is that there are more Mulloway out there now that the bag and size limits have been in for a while now? Whadoya reckon?
    Get out there.

Having decided yesterday was the best day weather wise over the weekend I headed out from the Port of Brisbane boat ramp into the bay with my son Alex and two of his mates. There was a little bit of chop and swell but it was nothing much so we sounded around and found some promising shows on the sounder, dropped anchor and berleyed. Despite different types of fish showing on the bottom all we managed to pull up were large catfish.
We decided to head northwards looking for whiting but didn’t get a touch so decided it was nice weather for trolling as the sea had calmed right down by this stage. We put two lures out and had only been going for about fifteen minutes when the lure further back was hit and the reel screamed off. It’s been quite a while since I have heard that noise and I had forgotten how nice it is! One of my son’s friends was closest to the rod so he picked it up and the fight began. At first we didn’t think it was anything much but we later realised he must have been swimming straight towards the boat because when Damon had retrieved maybe half the line, the fish suddenly took off.

From that point on, any line gained took a fair bit of effort and it was probably twenty minutes or so before we got our first look at it. The usual panic stations set in as we realised it was indeed a decent fish, not just some vermin. The landing net was nowhere big enough so we located the gaff, raised the engine, yelled instructions and generally had a good time. The fish kept diving under the boat and going from side to side at the rear of the boat. After three failed attempts at gaffing him mainly because as soon as he saw it he dived again, Damon finally bought him close enough and I managed to get a good secure gaffing through the jaw. Then it took most of us to drag him over the side and the high fiving began. The green machine finally had a decent fish to its name!
We all had the obligatory photo taken holding him then went to put him on ice. However, we quickly realised there was no way he was going to fit in the esky so we covered him with as much ice as we could, put a wet towel around him and raced back across the bay, to get him properly on ice. We drove straight to BCF Virginia and saw my mate, Gavin and bought an ice bag to put him in. Yet another piece of fishing gear acquired!

I think we’ll all be back out there next weekend trying again!

Hey guys, been a while since I popped in! Still fishing a lot. In terms of catching; not so much... lots of donuts lately!
I ended up selling my stealth kayak. I couldn't quite get used to being offshore on it and by being on edge meant the enjoyment factor wasn't quite there. Oh well, I gave it a go!
So last week I went halves in a boat with a long term fishing mate, Muzz. Quintrex renegade 440sc with 60hp yamaha. Many of you know how much I loved my 420 renegade, so I was super keen to get another one but this time a bit bigger and with a console as I mostly do bay and offshore duties. Plus it's small enough to launch off the beach at straddie which was a key point (residents can apply for a permit to do so).
Blooded it last week (well, I didn't, the others on board did haha) but we had a good cookup nonetheless!
been getting some nice landbased squid too
Anyway, keen to have a read of people's reports!
