Electric motor - DIY remote?

Anyone heard of it being done? Changing a normal tiller steer 28lb Minn Kota and being able to steer it using a remote control somehow? Anyone into RC cars, boats or planes that would be able to offer suggestions on where to start?

My auto elec at work is willing to do the work.

At the minimum, you'd need one servo/actuator to control the speed and one for steering.

I'd get a good book on RC controls for models as a start or take the Minn Kota to a model shop to see if they can guide / help / supply the bits.

Don't know where you live but there's a big RC shop on Gympie Road Strathpine.
