a freshwater gar in saltwater

caught this fish with my bare hands. it is some kind of fresh water gar but how did it end up in the ocean miles away from fresh water creek/river i dont know. anyway, i was fishing for sharks yesterday and i did manage to get something huge on but the hook came out the sharks mouth. so far in a months period time i lost every shark(probably 7 or 8) due to a curse or whatever on me. cant seem get one just to stay on the hook. but i will keep my practice up that's for sure.
