Buying A Boat

Evening gents, first post so be gentle with me.

 

I'm going to buy a boat and 1st (possibly) dumb question is:  what is the definition of a boats depth? Is it from the top of the sides to where the sides meet the bottom, the top of the sides to the floor level, the bottom of the sides to the bottom of the hull V......or is there another option i haven't thought of yet?

Love the threads, i'm learning a lot in a very short time so thanks in advance for any and all help.
