On-the-spot fines for fisheries offences in Queensland increased from 1 July 2016, in line with an increase in the monetary value of a penalty unit across the state.

Fines are based on a system of penalty units and the value of a penalty unit went up to $121.90. If a particular offence has a penalty unit of one, the on-the-spot fine is $121.00 (rounded down to the nearest dollar).

For example, if a person interferes with someone else's crab apparatus, the fine is $1219.00 or 10 penalty units.

Fishing in a prescribed dam or weir without a stocked impoundment permit carries a fine of $243.00 or two penalty units.
