Wow I hope BRP restructuring doesn’t impact the Telwater part of the business and Australian Jobs during covid.

    Hey Hweebe
I wish I was, but I am pretty much powerless to go much further than a couple Kilometre's away from a boat ramp as we are yak based. Good luck when you go out tomorrow
    Hey aussie123
Just a question, what will you be targeting tomorrow? Will you be going for deep water species or pelagics?
    Cheers Hamish 🙂

    Hey aussie123
Righto, well, that's very exciting! 🙂
Bar cod, Blue Eye, and Bass Grouper have only been things that I have dreamed of catching and Bar Cod are one of my very favourite fish (just from the looks, habitat, etc). Good luck, and if you get some I'm sure they'll make a great feed! 🙂
I also remember reading one of your old reports, I think it was called Bar Cod - Round 2. I quite liked it, and if I recall in that one they were going to markets in Sydney?
    Cheers Hamish 🙂

Definitely wise to start inshore while getting used to things out there.
We are going deep tomorrow so we will be about 35km outside of Moreton for the day if this wind decides to back off tonight.

That would be cool @ellicat last minute decision for me. We had some plans that fell through so I checked the weather and it was too good to pass up. Will make sure I post next time I’m heading out.

Hey @tugger I’m going to head out tomorrow and give it a go. Can I ask what kind of rig setup you found to work best? Ganged, weighted, dead/live bait?

I was going to, but my decky had to pull out. I'm now heading out for a dawn session on Monday.
What a bugger. Would have been keen to meet up. Next time..

I'm too scared to put it all down on a spreadsheet like that.
It looks too much like a business case and if the minister of finance saw all the costs layed out like that she would probably question my return on investment.
I've argued you can't put a price on my sanity and happiness. She begs to differ 🙂

@Old Scaley and I followed @Drop Bear out to his secret spot where they've been cleaning up lately. Ran into @tugger out there as well. The fish were a little scarcer today.
Steve was first on with the first fish to blood the boat.
    https://youtu.be/mtuLWQGE4wo

Then he couldn't get the hooks to stick on a couple and I hadn't had a touch all morning. I was thinking a doughnut may have been on the cards. Finally one took the pillie and I was on. The fish did some circles and then dove down a bit and wrapped my line around the motor. I thought it was all over, but managed to get the line clear and landed my first mackerel in 13 years. He went 65cm on the lie detector.

Managed only one more with a 69cm giving a decent tussle.
The boat went well and it won't be long before she takes me out again.
Thanks for the day, Steve. Bestest decky ever (as well).

Always tough when you rock up at first light and no birds are out and you don't have a spot x in the middle of no where like @Allnighter. Nice Tuna would have been good fun to reel in.

Congrats @Allnighter. The Moreton Bay longtail is on my bucket list but has eluded me for years. Because I am a bit limited by boat size I don’t get the opportunity to chase them too often but have spent many a frustrating hour chasing schools in the western bay when they are there. They seem much more skittish than they are up north or in Hervey Bay where I have caught them previously. Might have to stop chasing feeding schools and concentrate on finding bait schools. Thanks for posting.

Well, the stars aligned this morning for myself and my two sons, we all had time off work this morning and headed out for a quick fish from the Port of Brissy in search of any pelagics.
Bashed the beacons for awhile with no schoolies, so headed to an old mark where we have had success before in the middle of nowhere and was pleased to see on the sounder some massive bait balls 😊
Wasnt too long and off goes the Shimano baitrunner !
Nearly half an hour later and finally boated a nice Longtail Tuna which went just over a metre ...... 😊
Tried to swim it alongside boat for awhile for a graceful release but it was pretty gassed and ended up in the esky for dinnies.... (Lots of dinners i think)
Happy with that , so decided to make it a short session and back at the ramp by midday leaving behind a gloriously flat bay !

Did you have to use a car jack to lift the trailer off the the tow ball so that there is a enough height for the jockey wheel to be put into the vertical position. Fun times been there too 🙂

If you buying a new Lowrance they will mostly all come with C-Maps Australia pre-loaded. You can take up @Old Scaley offer and compare to the Navionics Gold.

Hi there Fisherman’s gear, and thank you,  almost every time I go fishing I’ll throw an unweighted pilly out the back, let a decent amount of line go, and just leave it in the holder, depending on the current, it’will stay up top for a while, or sink slowly down,.
Ive always just called it a floater, and can see there’s a few ways one might interpret that. With no effort at all it’s accounted for some pretty decent catches in the past, cheers
