I actually did catch one last night. Unfortunately it was not around the neck because he kept cruising away, oblivious to the fact that he was attached to my line somehow.

Completely lost my mojo. Fished the salt for first time in 3 years. Rick and I launched from Redland bay this morning armed with some fresh squid . Fished at snipe, iron stem, pots point and pelican banks Used half a tank of fuel, bruised bum from the chop. One 27cm bream some small snapper ( 2 to 4 inch)small parrot and small sweetlip for 4 hours effort. You can stick the rustwater up your kyber.

The amount of times I've been fishing at airlie.
The main street holds plenty of beautiful species, no need to take boat. However landing them can be sometimes difficult and other times it's double hookups all round. Very seasonal.
Best bait I used was pineapple cruisers. The fish up there love cruisers.

Were you riding on the bikeway/pedestrian bridge or on the road?  Was the fisho fishing on one of the fishing platforms. The fisho would have to be pretty good to land a cast on the bridge from the bank. Doing 30kph would be foolish if you were on the shared pedestrian/bikeway with attached fishing platforms

They’re quite different things and I think both have their place.

agree with what @ellicat said though - gobblers are even tougher than zmans and have a great action and look in the water as well. Heaps of colors and designs. And supporting a small local business is always a good thing IMO.

Hey @Drop Bear, since adding a post to this topic I started searching for info about freshwater prawn farming, just out of interest. Very interesting reading about farming techniques for both salt water and freshwater prawns in different regions, and what gets farmed where. The cherabin is actually the same genus (Macrobrachium) but different species (spinipes) to that referred to by the original poster, but hey, as they say in Asia “ same same but different”.  About 280,000 tonnes of freshwater prawns are farmed globally each year, compared to about 1,600,000 tonnes of salt water prawns. There have been a number of attempts to farm cherabins in Australia but none have been commercially successful from the reading I have done.
Based on what I have read, I would now support farming of the native species if that was possible, but not importing raw product from another country, although that is probably illegal now anyway.
By the way, Robbie, it did not surprise me to read that you thought cherabin were delicious since I have heard you say that about pretty much anything that comes from the water. 😁 And you are a good chef who could make a tasty meal out of an old boot.

Luke and I started off with spinnerbaits getting quite a few, then they seemed to go quite. We moved out a bit further into deeper water and while I tried jigging spoons, Luke tried a Jackall TN60. Well by the time he got to 9 on the jackall I thought I had better join him. With that much start it was hard to catch up, by the time he got to 12 I was only on 6.We kept getting them until it was time to go home. Between the spinnerbaits and the jackalls it was a real good session.I got the rest of my stitches out of my nose thursday, whiched revealed an ugly site, black and red, so had to cover up once more to go fishing.

Ouch! that's gotta hurt, I had just ordered a pair of 200mm Knipex bolt cutters for that very same reason,  I do have a larger HIT 600mm pair for large shark hooks but also wanted a much smaller pair to carry around i my tackle bag for moments like these, should that happen to me or someone nearby. The 200mm ones are much  easier to handle one handed and will cut though most (up to 3.5mm) hooks easily as well.
Only ever had one small hook into my thumb, it didn't hurt that much but by the time I got medical treatment hours later, the old thumb was well and truly "sensitive". The hook didn't go right through so the Doc aesthetically ring blocked my thumb, now that hurt! jabbed me about 15 times to try and make my thumb go numb, then they cut the hook tip out! That little episode left a lasting impression on me, don't want a repeat! 😬
