  1. Hey Drop Bear Wow. That is truly devastating. I'd understand why everyone would be so traumatised after. I hope he was having a good time, and he passed away doing what he loved around friends/family. Cheers Hamish
  2. Hey all Well, my father and I have decided it would be a bit easier if I also had a 7ft net lying around, if I ever wanted to use it off the yak, or off any beaches. The ten footer is a bit to big to throw off the yak but I can manage off jetties, or basically anything that's more stable. I've sent a message to someone on Gumtree, for apparently a net in 'good condition', for $45 (negotiable). https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/nudgee/fishing/cast-net-3-4-mesh-7-/1254346958 If this doesn't go to planned, or if anyone is willing to/knows of one in better condition, I would love to know about it. Thought I'd send a message so someone doesn't snap it up before me, but I posted one on here so I don't buy it, and then someone tells me I could've gotten it cheaper! Cheers Hamish P.S. Sorry to clog up the threads/activity with this thread
  3. Another good session rayke1938. That yella could be used in the footy! Cheers Hamish
  4. This story just makes me so ANGRY - https://bnbfishing.com.au/illegal-fishers-sentenced-on-nsw-north-coast/ Clearly no regard for the law. I would've loved higher fines but hopefully that puts 'em into line! Cheers Hamish
  5. Hey all Here is the B'n'B only magazine from the 13th. Enjoy - https://bnbfishing.com.au/?mc_cid=83c30d07fa&mc_eid=9020033529 Cheers Hamish
  6. That's lucky you made it out relatively unscathed, I would be very nervous ever crossing a bar. I guess it's just one of those things where it's all about experience, Nirvana. The more you do it the more you get used to it! Cheers Hamish
  7. Hey Drop Bear This is a link about some. Mainly on the Fraser Coast and I think it's a bit old but - https://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/news/fraser-coast-crocodile-sighting-statistics-reveale/3614551/ Cheers Hamish
  8. Looks good Drop Bear. I'll have to get myself some Spanish Mackerel! Cheers Hamish
  9. Hey rayke1938 Just realised I missed this thread Good job on the bass. A nice little session! Cheers Hamish
  10. I'm hoping ellicat has smashed some real big cod and yellas. I'll be excited to hear the report! Cheers Hamish
  11. Don't listen to GregOug, Southside. He's just jealous because he can't fish that long! (Well I can't talk because I can't either ). Cheers Hamish
  12. Yep, that sounds awesome! I volunteer my dad to catch our livies . Then we can go catch some monsters! I don't think next week is possible for me, but I'll check with my dad. Would you want to do a Friday night? Cheers Hamish
  13. Hey Leosonfire Good set up there. I have never bothered doing a DIY anchor for our yak. I'd imagine that would work pretty well. If I was making one, I may have fashioned a grapple hook type thing out of wire, just so it could catch onto something! Love the light too. *Sigh* I wish Drop Bear. I'm actually crook at the moment (I'm trying my best to isolate from everyone else), so even if it wasn't a school night, I can't come Cheers Hamish
  14. Same here, Drop Bear. kmcrosby78, maybe they already sold? Cheers Hamish
  15. Good job rayke1938. That must be about as big as the old redclaw get. Woud've almost had one feed off it! Cheers Hamish
  16. Hey Drop Bear Maybe a fix as simple as putting double sided tape on it so it stays still would do they job? When we go out at night time on the yak we just have a lantern attached to some wood. Lol. Maybe South Side should fish the river sometime in the comp. Hopefully you can nail some of the target species Cheers Hamish
  17. Thanks Drop Bear, I normally release everything I catch. The water quality is the only reason. Oh, and the reason I haven't tried the prawn recipe you gave me is because I haven't caught enough!!! Lol Cheers Hamish
  18. Hi Drop Bear It's the first thing in this post - starts on the 22th Cheers Hamish
  19. Morning samsteele115 I use the 80lb because of their mouths, and also so if I hook a small bully I can land it without being bitten off. I think it's far too fresh for there to be jewies at the moment, but I've read a report of someone catching soapies this far up (that was in the Millennium drought though). Currently, I'm just using a blood knot on it. It is about 60cm-1m, depending on how I tie it. You want enough trace for your livie to swim around. I've only caught one jew as well, and it wasn't even legal (52cm). A really big river jew would be a true trophy fish. I know someone who's caught a 1m+ at Dutton Park, which isn't the furthest away from me... I have one line right up in structure, and especially when chasing cod, which fight dirty, any lighter and I wouldn't be landing them. On the line I catch perch on, it is a bit of overkill, but there's quite a few snags so if I did hook onto something OK it's good to have some backup. There's some spots I'd love to explore with lures, so if you're fine with sending me some, that'd be great! Would you mind sending it to our P.O box? I'll send a PM now Hey GregOug Yep, the reason I clean this one is because it's not just for fishing but more so for boats, kayaks, and a lot of families spend time on there. Like samsteele115 said, it's good to keep multi-purpose jetties clean, or in my opinion, any public ones for that matter (that you can help, i.e. try to be tidy when fishing off them). Cheers Hamish
  20. Hey samsteele115 Thanks, the perch seem to be unique to the rivers around here, and as for the breambo he was a shock as he was right up the top of the net. Probably gouging himself on prawns. I use 12lb and 14lb mainlines on my lighter lines, one of which I use for cod/breambos/flatties, and the other I use for perch, and catfish. I use 20lb black magic fluorocarbon leader. On my salmon line, I run 30lb mainline, 30lb leader, and 80lb mono trace. I've still been done on that, but I think any heavier and I may lose the 'sporting' element. Lol. I simply clean it so someone doesn't complain to the council, then they shut it off to me. This has got to be my favourite place to fish, and especially to spend outdoors too. I wish there were squid there, LOL, but in the murky waters of the river a squid would have to be as disoriented as my brother to be up there! Some more memorable sessions were #5, #16, #21, #25-26, #32, and #37 I believe. Other than that, a lot of my sessions are for diddly squat, or just catfish and perch (the perch are the worse pickers on the salmon line when using prawns). Cheers Hamish
  21. Hi all Because I woke up at five this morning, I believe I have caught nothing but a bloody cold. Hence, I really do not feel like writing a report right now. So I'll just chuck up some piccies from the last couple sessions, and then I'll write the report when I feel better. A 29cm Cast net bream A 31cm River Perch - an OK fight was had Some b*stard who thinks it OK to leave the jetty with blood It had just been cleaned too, so it was a real shame My dad cleaning out glassies. He put in about 40 good throws this morning for bugger all... and I ran out of bait! That's all, report to hopefully come soon! Cheers Hamish
  22. Would that potentially be a new type of bait samsteele115? Cheers Hamish
  23. You're just jealous because you're a Northsider and the SUPERIOR angler in Southside isn't in Northside!!!
