  1. Good luck Steve, I hope you find a good car. Cheers Hamish
  2. Hi @Simple Truth As far as I am concerned they no longer dredge the middle/upper reaches of the river (Jindalee, Indooroopilly, New Farm, etc) but they do dredge around the Port occasionally, I believe. If you skim through this website there may be something, though I don't think all of it is relevent. https://moretonbayfoundation.org/articles/marine-transport-infrastructure-development-in-moreton-bay-dredging-monitoring-and-future-directions/ Cheers Hamish
  3. Good luck jon, I hope you can get some fish if you do end up going out. If you can get them live baits, or fresh baits (cast nets or bait jigs) always seem to be better than frozen bait. Cheers Hamish
  4. Hey ubnt I mainly fish landbased in the Brisbane River. The tide is quite strong, which means that even if fishing structure right next to the bank you will often still need a sinker. The only time I fish unweighted is when I float prawn cubes down for bream. When I am live baiting in the river and targeting fish like threadfin salmon, I use anywhere from a size 2 ball sinker to a size 5 star sinker. Size 2 and 6 ball sinkers and size 4 star sinkers being the main size I use. I put these on top of a trace of about 70cm (can go shorter/longer but I prefer above 50cm) or occasionally just have the sinker running straight to the hook. I think you will find that if you cast out unweighted livies they will stay on the surface, get pushed away by the current, and tangle with other fishers lines. I have caught a few threadies and many other fish using sinkers and live bait, though only a few little bream fishing unweighted. I would be giving fishing in the river a miss for about 1-3weeks due to all this debris and freshwater. Cheers Hamish
  5. Hey @ubnt Baitrunners are definitely worth it, especially if you plan to fish with live baits a lot. I don't have any comments on the Okuma version but I can't imagine they would be that bad. Even with my short experience using a baitrunner, I really like them. Good Luck, Cheers Hamish
  6. Thanks guys, I won’t be putting in any pots this weekend. The spot I wanted to go is flooded anyways. Angry, some parts of SEQ/Ipswich have 150mm (some parts more possibly). There’s a lot of flooding at the moment. Cheers Hamish
  7. Hi All I can't imagine the river will be fishing well, especially if they release water from Wivenhoe. I'll probably drop a crab pot in at a landbased spot, and although unlikely I might get lucky. So what does everyone else do in terms of fishing? Only chase prawns and crabs, go offshore, go freshwater, stick to the rivers? Cheers Hamish
  8. Hi Daryl Top job. Those are some quality fish. Do you fish much for squid around Manly/Shorncliffe? I think this Autumn/Winter I am going to give them a crack. I don't think they will be around with all this dirty water (or that's what I read, anyways). Cheers Hamish
  9. Lol. A bit better than myself; who almost always has an empty esky in the bike buggy .
  10. I'm glad you've found a new spot Ed. I hope you catch a lot at Hervey Bay! Urangan Pier is supposed to have lots of tuna, mackerel, and trevally. And really big grouper too. Cheers Hamish
  11. Nice work Kat and Brian! I’m glad you got onto a few decent fish. It’s a real shame about the big snapper though. Was that in a similar area to where you fished with Benno the other week? That flatly is so tiny I could hardly make it out in the photo . At least you didn’t donut, @Old Scaley. Cheers Hamish
  12. Nice work Ray. Glad to see you got some good ones. Cheers Hamish
  13. Hi Aaron Best of luck on the trip. There are some big crabs in Stanage (apparently), although the tides are said to be very strong in the creeks, so it would be best to weight your pots I think. Cheers Hamish
  14. Hi BZH Nice work on the lures. They look marvellous. I am glad you figured out to get them them swimming right. And great job on the GT's too, they're huge!!! Cheers Hamish
  15. Hi Greg Great job! Looks like you have another good spot now. Cheers Hamish
  16. Nice one Leeroy, those squire are nice and colourful CHeers Hamish
  17. Welcome back @demarc. Good luck with the lures. Cheers Hamish
  18. Nice work Ray, they are some big bass! Cheers Hamish
  19. Welcome to the forum @dnardy! Those are some quality fish. I’m sure they would’ve fought well. Nice work! Cheers Hamish
  20. Thanks @bigkingie. I'm already on the quest for another one, on Gumtree and Marketplace. They are great reels. Cheers Hamish
  21. That is an awesome sized Red. It would've pulled some string. When you see pics of 13KG fish that already look huge, you'd wonder how fat a 22KG fish would be as well. When it says Southern QLD I assume it is somewhere around Fraser-Yeppoon? Cheers Hamish
  22. That’s a shame Ray. Any ideas on why NPD has been fishing slowly lately?
  23. Hey @ubnt Assuming that the jetties you are netting from are all relatively close to the port, mullet won’t be that common. The main thing you will get will be (banana and tiger) prawns, herring, glassies, and the odd anchovy/bony bream. If you want mullet in the river you will need to find a relatively shallow mud bank, creek mouth, or sandy beach. A berley bomb or two won’t hurt either. I find that mullet school up more when the water is slightly cleaner, and they are more scattered when there is a lot of rain. Assuming you are fishing for threadies or jewies, prawns and herring will work great as well. Cheers Hamish
  24. Nice job Techman! That’s a quality session. Those fish will be yummy. Cheers Hamish
