  1. Good work Ray. 50cm is a huge bass!
  2. Hi @Sky Any jetty along the river is worth a shot. Leave your pots overnight, but drop them early before anyone can nick them. If you don’t get any crabs try a different jetty. Use Google maps to find your spot. Cheers Hamish
  3. Hi Benno Nice work! That is a great session. It would've been great off the yak too. Cheers Hamish

That sucks @Tatiana. I hope everything goes well! Cheers Hamish
  5. Hi Charlie In my opinion, Daiwa bait junkies are slightly easier to rig, but the body is not as natural as that on Z-man lures. I reckon both have a pretty similar action, but the size hook needed to rig them can vary greatly. I think Z-man soft plastics last longer and do not melt as much, opposed to Daiwa bait junkies, which often become mushy if left pre rigged in a tackle box. If I am honest I don’t think the Z-man 10x Tough means much, just a marketing gimmick. Z-man and Baitjunkies are made of similar materials (both plastisol, or sometime similiar) so they will last relatively the same. Cheers Hamish
  6. Nice work Bro. Better than my first session of the New Years. Cheers Hamish
  7. Wowza! That’s high as! I know the Colmslie Ramp has been flooding recently too. I can’t imagine much would be around with all the fresh. Cheers Hamish
  8. Hi Charlie Here is a recipe that you could use. Assuming you are eating them from the Brisbane River they won’t taste the nicest. They would be better from cleaner waters. My friend used this recipe and reported that they taste OK. (I can’t imagine Brisbane River catfish would ever be good). https://www.hungryhuy.com/ca-kho-to-recipe-vietnamese-braised-fish/ You would be far better off eating fish such as bream, estuary cod, flathead, or whiting (which can be all caught around Brisbane). My friend doesn’t eat catfish anymore after trying better tasting fish. Cheers Hamish P.S. Channel Catfish are not an Australian species and are native to (South and North) America and Asia. The catfish caught in the Brisbane River are Forktail or Salmon Catfish.
  9. Hi Charlie You are far more likely to encounter bream on the river using hardbodies around rock bars. Any small chubby lure will work. Plastics are best for fishing for flatties and larger fish , as opposed to brram, as bream often hold on structure where plastics will get snagged. Cheers Hamish
  10. Hi Charlie Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you can catch some fish in Brisbane soon. Chers Hamish
  11. Thanks Ed and others. Happy New Year! Hopefully this year everyone can catch some good fish! Cheers Hamish
  12. I would go the larger size if you plan to be using live bait. You don’t need a long cast when chasing jacks, especially when off a boat. A short rod would be fine. I would only use the light rod if you plan to do only lure fishing. The rod and reel combo you caught a 90cm trevally on would probably handle most Mangrove Jacks, if you do not want to buy a brand new combo. Cheers Hamish
  13. Nice work Brian and Benno! Those are some solid grunter. It’s a shame the weather has been bad lately. But it’s not as bad as Victoria! The water here is freezing (I went swimming yesterday and was chattering for the next hour) and it’s always cloudy and drizzling! Cheers Hamish
  14. Hi Myles You may be best of going to a local tackle shop and asking for some advice. Doug Bert’s store is apparently excellent. Cheers Hamish
  15. Hi Sampey Around Melbourne, land based, you can get silver trevally, mullet, Aussie salmon, bream, flathead, whiting, and pinkies. A Shimano Sienna combo would be good. If you wanted, you could switch the rod to something such as an Ugly Stik (best for bait fishing) or an Abu Garcia Veritas (lure fishing). Good luck, Cheers Hamish (ps thanks for that video. Coincidentally I am down here right now and that fellas YouTube channel gave me some good spots to try )
  16. Hi Tony Nice work on those queenies. It is a shame you didn’t get any of the big mackerel. Do you think they are what keep spooling you? Cheers Hamish
  17. Welcome to the forum Steve. I am not from around there but I’d imagine if you caught some yabbies you would have success. Google Maps would be a handy tool to suss out spots. Cheers Hamish
  18. Hi Myles You could use a Shimano Stradic reel, or Saragosa (although this would go over your budget). These would be capable of fishing large lures or live baits. A Shimano bait runner would suffice for bait fishing exclusively. An Abu Garcia overhead reel and Abu Garcia VeritS would make an OK lure fishing rod. I know someone who uses this combo with success. You could use rods such as a Shimano Raider, Atomic Arrowz Rod, or Abu Garcia Veritas (or Ugly Stik, if you plan to do only bait foshing). Cheers Hamish
  19. Good job Ray. Hopefully the thieves do not return. Cheers Hamish
  20. Hi Zolli If I’m completely honest with you Indro Bridge is not a great spot. There is a small platform accessible at the bridge end of the riverwalk on the Indro side, which you can fish off. High tide is better and it is snag ridden. There would be catfish and sharks. You can fish off the riverwalk although it’s quite high. On the Chelmer side of the bridge there is a muddy beach which you can cast net off, and catch whiting, mullet, biddies, and prawns. There are some OK fish and sharks under the bridge but like ellicat said it’s mostly catfish. If you do not have a cast net to catch livies I would use eel, or large fish chunks. Most of the catfish under the bridge are below thirty centimetres, anyways. Cheers Hamish
  21. Thanks for the clarification Benno. I never knew. I had many people tell me they were frogmouth pilchards. Cheers Hamish
  22. I actually have an explanation for this! In all of the categories of the forum, there are pages. At the bottom of each page there is a button that says read all. I only saw this recently when on the forum. So I must’ve clicked it, and then the site showd that I’d read the topics. embarrassed!!!!
  23. Nice work Myles. Sounds like you caught some good fish. 90CM is huge for a canal GT. POIDH. Lol. If you wanted a spin combo you could get an Abu Garcia Veritas with a Shimano Stradic. Around a 4-7KG rod and 3000-4000 size reel. 20 or 30 pound braid. 30-80 pound leader depending on how big the fish are. If you’re using lures a lot of people have success on poppers, hardbodies, and soft plastics (ie sugarpen or zman grubz). If you’re fishing with live baits you’d want to try them unweighted and on the bottom. Big livies, like mullet, are supposedly ok. A lot of the questions you are asking you will need to experiment with yourself. Sometimes fish in different areas need different rigs. I wouldn’t buy a bait caster unless you’re exclusively using it with lures. They aren’t that much good with bait. Cheers Hamish
