  1. Went fishing on the weekend (Saturday), it was a beautiful day as we headed out at 4am and got on the water by 4:50. We headed to our spot where we sounded around with on luck, we eventually found a school on the bottom and dropped our rigs down. The only note worthy fish was a 40cm red emperor. then out of the corner of my eye i saw tuna, a small school of tuna. I was so excited and we pulled up line and chased them, we followed them chucking metal slugs into them with no prevail. then we headed to Morton island and had a troll but still nothing. i then decided to head to Morton and try and get some day time squid but did not really know where to go to get them so caught nothing. we soon headed home after burning 80-100 litres of fuel.
  2. A lot of people use swivels in their rigs, but having a longer leader i great for when a fish runs to a reef or when a mackerel or a fish with sharp teeth gets it it could clip the braid breaking it.
  3. This is going to be quick. Does anyone know any bait for fresh water eels (that would be in a household). cheers
  4. I’ve got a good sized (70cm) catfish up north on a bait jig, while on a fishing holiday.
  5. Anywhere that you can go in a small tinny you can go in a yak, if you are going to get anything maybe get an eclectic motor for your kayak, or save till your 16 and the pandemic is over so that boat prices are a little bit cheaper.
  6. your right should have added the best time. Ellicat I realised that I have little photos of my success so I went out this afternoon for a fish, and in 10 minutes I had two bloody rippers.
  7. There are some of my other posts with me and talapia but this is the only one I could find on my phone
  8. Yeah I'm in school at the moment i will post when i get home (around 3ish).
  9. This is a guide on how to catch tilapia (sight fishing). i am not the best to be giving advice, but i catch hundreds of these pests. Equipment: a fishing rod, pliers, lip grips, icky stick or brain spike, shovel or bag. and don't forget the most important thing, the tackle box, in this you will need hooks multiple sizes normally pretty small some long shank and some circle, treble hooks, some sinkers, some floats multiple sizes, beads and some jig heads + little 1 inch white grubs. Time: anytime will suit, mostly in the afternoon is the best time, sunny day so you can see them and clear water, summer is also a lot better than winter and the colder months (thanks Hamish) how to spot them: they will be on the surface near weeds or lillies depending on the time of year they will be in a big school or in a breading pair. how to catch them (bait is bread or dough): i like to use a small hook with bread covering the whole hook, with a small sinker 20 cm up with a float just above the sinker. cast past the school and slowly pull it into the school, if you didn't spook them you did it right, then when one shows intrest give it a little tug with will make it chase it and then draw the attention of the others, let it then eat it without striking then strike when the float is far underwater. how to catch using lures: the only lure i have ever caught them on is a little white grub, what you do is cast past them and pull it in slowly, try to pull it over them to get a reaction bite from the others. if you brought treble hooks the put on a small sliding sinker with treble, and pull it over them to snag them. how to dispose of them: kill them using the icky stick or brain spike, then put them in the bag you brought, go into the bushes near the lake but far enough and dig a hole to put them in, or put them in a bin close to bin day. thanks for reading the ultimate guide for tilapia and feel free to post some photos of your catch down below cheers

that describes me at this moment.
  11. I have the two piece barra raider but is also have the snapper raider with a 5000 of the same model, they both cast well. i think the differce is that the barra has a softer tip while the snapper has a stiffer tip. both could get in a good mac tuna or a big tailor, but a jew might need to be chased down if it is big. cheers
  12. personally, i use the shimano Barra raider 6ft 6in with a shimano Sedona 4000, which can get in good size mack tuna and mackerel, but i don't know if it would be suited to the lure your talking about.
  13. thanks, now i can finally catch a size one and not a 10cm small fry.
  14. try using weedless plastics so you can cast far into the mangroves to lure that bugga out.
  15. I'm bored in school, and would like to hear the stories of your greatest catches to pass the time. Cheers
  16. the size of the tanks seems fine for the fish. i think it would be the same as having one as a pet so im not sure if it would be classed as cruel.
  17. good fish there mate, what beach were you at?
  18. check this one out https://alvey.com.au/shop/60gt/
  19. are you looking for a combo or just the reel?
  20. i am not the best bass fisher in anyway but if you are after bass you should try ewen maddock dam. i know that it is stocked with Australian bass, yellow belly, Mary river cod and Saratoga. but also have naturally breeding species like eel tail catfish and spangled perch. but you can't use any motors i think so mainly kayaks.
