Hi all im heading up to woodgate two days after christmasfor a week just looking for some advice or some spots to fish .Ive got a 3.6 m tinny with a 15 hp yammie on the back . Ideally i would like to chase some jacks and maybe on a flat day get out to the artificial reef . Any info would be well appreciated.

Cheers ,Louis

Hey mate I'm lucky enough to have a beach house up there at Woodgate and frequent it often. Being a tourist town its a bit like a car park during that time of year but if your prepared to get up early before all the fair weather fisherman you can do alright. Places to try are the far reaches of the theodolite watch the sandbars as they change nearly daily. The artificial's out the front are only about 1-2 mile off the boat ramp so you should be fine on a good day however they are frequently fished so don't hold your breath for too much, you might be better trying the gutters along the beach for some flatties of taylor. If your really keen and the weather suits * mile burrum turns it on with the mackies around this time of the year but it's a fair way to go with the 15hp. With your boat your perfectly suited for a few sessions up the Gregory or Burrum rivers with flatties, jacks, bream, jewwies and even the occasional barra to be had. Try the big hole up the Burrum just out from Buxton at night with livies some monster cod and barra around if you can stop them!!!!!

P.S if your going to run any pots keep a shotgun handy and a keen eye out for any pot pickers they are plentiful at this time of the year.

Hope this was helpful, let us know how you go good luck mate
