PHD student Toby Piddocke is conducting a research project on mangrove jacks in NSW which involves tracking jacks with acoustic telemetry plus looking at their general life history traits in general (i.e DNA, when they mature, what they eat etc.).

Importantly, Toby is seeking help from NSW mangrove jack fishers by way of a questionnaire-based survey. The aim of the survey is to collect basic information on the fishery, and to provide fishers with an opportunity to give their ideas about how to ensure good mangrove jack fishing is available into the future.

Project background:

The questionnaire is part of a research project entitled "Fisheries biology and movements of mangrove jack in NSW". The project is administered by Southern Cross University and is funded primarily by NSW Recreational Fishing Licence fees.

The questionnaire will be used to gain a broad overview of the recreational fishery for mangrove jack in NSW, including fishers' views on how the species should be managed.

Your response to this survey, and to any question in the survey, is completely voluntary. The survey will take 5-10 minutes to complete. You will not be individually identified in any reports or scientific papers resulting from this research.

If you wish to participate, please fill in the questionnaire with either a tick in the boxes provided, or a written answer in the lines provided. Please return using the stamped, addressed envelope enclosed.

The survey only takes about five minutes, and the easiest way to complete it
