BOM (SEQ) Trialing Thunderstorm Tracker

BoM has started trialling in SEQ/ Brisbane area, a new ‘tool’ for thunderstorm activity/outbreaks.

It`s a graphical short term thunderstorm tracker. SEQ is the first area to use this ‘tool’ before it`s made available to other capitals.

Similar to the Severe Thunderstorm Warning maps in use now (the red circles and ovals), the tracker shows the radar echo intensity of the newest scans, to predict the probable track of storms and activity out to 30mins ( each arc = 10mins)and this updates every 6 mins.

If you click on About Thunderstorm Tracking for Southeast Queensland on the map page some details about it are there.

Just found a way:

When on the home page of the BOM website, on the top tabs, hover over the 'QLD'

and click on 'Forecasts'

under the purple tab 'More Forecasts' is the 'Thunderstorm Tracker-Southeast Queensland Pilot'
