What Fish Is This?

Hey guys,

Just went fish today and would like to know what type of fish these are? Theyre saltwater caught from Jurien Bay, WA from a 'weedy bank' area. Round tails and  brownish silver in colour.

Can you please give an indication of the actual size? Just not sure if the newspaper is a broadsheet or not...

Was about 30 -35cm in length

If you are being serious i would say they are sand bass. I caught one once and thought it was a little barra but had it id'd for me. 

Bit of a shame to kill 4 fish without knowing what they are though. What if they were protected? Undersize? Poisonous?

I had thought the same with sand bass but just wanted to confirm size and distribution before saying for sure.

 

not having a crack but as @Angus said it is generally best that if you are in doubt best grab a photo, release the fish, research and learn for next time. In this instance it ended up being no problem, an edible fish with no size or bag limit in WA, however, fisheries people don't accept ignorance as an excuse.
