ellicat got a reaction from AUS-BNE-FISHO in Fishing Around Peregian Beach/Hell's Gate?
Can't talk about the rocks there at Noosa, but there might be some old reports from Angus.
When I lived at Coolum and fished Peregian in the mid 80's all that I ever caught at the beach was dart and long toms. Running ball sinker, 1/0 longshank hook, beach worms. At the bays there were bream around the rocks of course. My neighbour would catch good size jew off the rocks there on whole mullet and using bread for berley. Only fished at might though and knew the right tides etc.
    Good luck up there.

For what it's worth, as a bean counter I say you're better off, in a non-deductible car, to spend $5K on repairs to get everything up to speed now than to spend $30K - $40K that will lose $5K in value 6 months after you buy it. Especially so if the body and engine are ticking along nicely as well as the aircon of course. Insurance will also be cheaper on the existing car.

Thanks Hamish for your river fishing perspective and I definitely had high hope for its place in landbased fishing. I will see if it live up to the expectation!
Thanks Kat and I will get a boat later!!
Thanks ellicat, yes I have used other sabiki rig on normal rods but the problem probably is repack the rig after fishing. I got an expensive lesson when I left a rig on the floor and kick it without knowing the hooks are still there. :(( The good thing of this rod is probably it hide everything inside the rod and easy to travel and store as you use it.

I have one and they are great !
You could probably use any old rod to do the same, but these rods keep those little hooks from catching everything they touch. You can get the rigs in different sizes so make sure you get some with small hooks for herring (I use #6). Any brand works so go the cheapies imo.

    Hi @ubnt
Depending on where you fish, it could come in handy or it could be useless.
For example, if you plan to fish at Shorncliffe a lot (or any of the other piers around, for that matter), it would probably be good - most of the time you can supposedly get herring, pike, etc.
If you plan to fish a lot in rivers or just off jetties/docks, they won't be that good. Especially in the Brisbane River, where the water is filthy and there isn't the same amount of bait that concentrates around deeper pylons.
Keep in mind you can always use a conventional rod with a bait jig too.
    Cheers Hamish

I think with the way the used car market is at the moment, you'd be better off with repair over replace. How many km's on her ?

Thanks @Angry51 and @GregOug. I have both those thoughts competing in my brain lately. I have an appointment with the financial advisor next week so will raise it with him. Maybe with the war, floods, Warnie etc I may not have the money to take any options and will have to get Hamish and his Dad to set me up with a treadlie and tow bar. 🤣

    hey hamish,
fun way to spend the school holidays.
mate they won't be yabby holes.  yabbys can't live in pure mud, they need sand.  as much as it would amuse me watching you sink up to your armpits in the mud trying for non-existent yabbies - i would strongly suggest not bothering.  they will likely be a fiddler crab hole or one of the many other small mangrove crabs.

Have only skim-read a bit and looked at the photos but good to see you out there learning heaps Hamish. I'd suggest deleting the photo of the crab pot with the dead rat OR blurring out your address/phone number - better safe than sorry when it comes to thieves, etc. Keep up the great work 🙂.

Good question, Ray. I think the CMaps should do as @Hweebie says they are more up to date. Maybe @Old Scaley could let us know from his Navionics card ??

Thanks for the offer, Steve. I'll take you up on that. 👍

Thanks guys, yes, I know it was way to long. I hope you enjoyed the sections you read/looked at.
Thanks Brian, it would’ve taken a while. I may have to come down there with the yabby pump and some gum boots one day. And try and not get to muddy.
I googled mud skippers and that’s what they are. Good to see them in the river I guess. Do you know if they can be used for bait?
Hopefully I can start catching some more in the river too. This arvo Dad and I nailed/liquid nailed a box together which fits into the back of my bike buggy. I am going to insulate it so it will be an esky.
    Cheers Hamish

Well, I finished it all (in 3 sittings lol). You've gotta be in it to win it, Hamish.
No idea what that hole is but there looks to be a few holes, so you never know. I couldn't make out that 3rd pic in that series - could it be a mud skipper ?
Some fun sessions and a lot of recon missions will see you being a river master in the coming years.
