@ellicat as soon as that bloody northerly came up Brian, we were outta there ! Weird how it backed off shortly after, it normally rolls on and on into the night. Keep going with the fresh baits mate.
@matty74 lol.....
13 hours ago, matty74 said:Easy when you have good gps marks
Hahaaa im not so sure about that statement ?? ..... " easy" it took me 30 years to figure out different spots in the bay matty, there is no "secret spot" that i am aware of..... we just spent hours and hours of fishing different well known gps marks , and a few new marks of our own to find out for ourselves the better times to fish them.
And these are all spots in 6 metres or less close to bay islands
Ive had countless donut trips over the years.
Honestly, sometimes there are other boats fishing the same places no further than 20 metres away..... ( which is part of the reason we dont bother on weekends) if you look closely in one of the pics you can see another boat not too far from us, he was drifting past us more closely a few times flicking plastics, but after a few drifts he pissed off unsuccessful. ( my point is that he would assume the spot wasnt holding snapper). I could blab on and on forever because im quite passionate about bay snapper tactics, so trust me, i have earnt every snapper that comes over the side and into the boat these days, and yes a reasonable amount are released too
Of course im proud of our catches and when i post pics it makes me all warm n fuzzy, but i have also enjoyed giving others a few tips along the way, without being too specific, anyway enough ranting lol.....

Nice boat Kat !
Years ago i too had a formosa centre console and it never let me down, it was a great boat and very safe.
Just some free advice on the bimini......
i left my bimini on the whole time, i had some "clears" custom made for the front and the sides attached to the bimini and straps.
The clears at the front had a zipper in the middle. The clears buttoned along the front to the aluminium.
Most of the time the whole bimini and clears stayed down in the folded position to the front of boat and rested behind anchor well, it was out of the way.
In cold windy weather or a storm or anchored on a cold night i would simply pull the folded down bimini up into position with the clears already attached and it would instantly convert into a huge half cab sort of idea, you could still see all around because of the clear vinyl - it worked a treat.
We would sleep either side of centre console on rolled up foam mattresses.
Snug as bugs in rugs !!

Yes it was truly an amazing day on the water thats for sure.
Ive had plenty of times like everyone else when the forecast was great but the actual conditions were crap!.
I wait ALL year for winter days like today...

Well, headed out to Green Island solo today to see if the snaps have arrived yet.
Water starting to clear after all the recent rain and water temp dropping nicely.
It wasnt exactly flat this afternoon, the northerly seemed to kick up a bit more than predicted or so it seemed.
Was a bit of a hard slog to gather bait though, i spent 4 loooong hours before scraping together enough bait for a snapper session.
4 hours gathering bait, for a 2 hour fishing session at spot x in 6 metres of water.
Well the good news is the snaps are back around the bay shallows again !
1 @ 65cm and 1 @ 80cm...
Happy with 2 for a feed, so i decided to head back in before dusk.

Nice longtail Greg !!
Great eating, and keep the frame to cut up into sections ( bones and all ) for great snapper bait.
Congrats

Hi Hamish,
Thanks for that but $1k a night is a little over the top for me....
I went out to manly boat harbour and asked around in a few offices , but no interest, apparently in 15 years theyve never been asked, they were quite keen to SELL me a boat though hahaaa.....
I must be the only one goin nuts with stoopid ideas....
Yes hopefully some snaps veeery sooooooon

Doesnt have to be anything flash either, an old bay cruiser for example maybe?, or an old fixed up trawler?
30 footer or so?
Or even a nice yacht would be nice hahaaa

Im probably dreamin....
But just puttin it out there
Im on holidays atm.
Anyone know how i could find out how i could possibly pay someone to rent their biggish sorta boat for a week or so ?
Not to travel anywhere in it, just to have it anchored , say on the northern end of mud out of the southerlies that will be here soon
Im keen to take my tinny to tie up to it, do all my fishing around mud island out of my boat, but need a bigger boat to have a warm sleep in, and to cook up dinner and breakfast in.
Would pay decent coin for this to happen.

The boat still can swing with the electric, which usually means its windy / choppy.
For me, i dont bother fishing in that spot at that time as it is both uncomfortable and doesn't provide results either.
Precise anchoring is only a thing in good weather/bay conditions, which yes, will improve your results
You know, the calm side of the island
