Mate, if you’ve had it for sale for over a year just take it to John Crawford Marine and they will sell it for you, and get the best price you are going to get.

I notice people keep mentioning grinners on here. They weren’t a problem 40 or so years ago when I was heavily into fishing. Only caught the very occasional one. Have they become a problem?

I used to fish inside Moreton a lot and in Bribie passage, but many years ago. So very rusty. I just intend getting out there and finding the spots. If someone who knows what they are doing wants to come along, all the better. And if people like yourself want to help me explore that’s fine too. Provided the seas aren’t too horrendous (in which case I wouldn’t be going anyway) we should be able to get anywhere in most of the bay fairly quickly.

As for the motor - yes it should be very fast. I test drove one with a 175 hp on the back which is a V6. The 200 hp pro xs is a V8, which should get out of the hole much quicker. The 175 was lightning fast as it was.
Just hoping it’s ready soon. 👍

OK - I certainly can't go out if the seas are big either, I get sea sick if it's rough conditions. Though, when i take some kwells or ginger tablets, I normally feel fine for the whole trip. 🙂
I do hope your boat is ready soon, i know how it feels waiting for something to come - it's the best feeling when it's ready for you to go 🙂

    Hi Hamish,
There are usually prawns just out in front of Nudgee Beach, but usually in winter from memory. You need a boat. But if you do have one you could just jump from boat to boat until you find them when it’s prawning season. The boats are that thick! Lol. I’m sure others on here will be able to advise you on the best spots and time of year.

    G'day Randall
Are you a bait or lure fisho?
If you're using bait, i don't think you can go past some pillies. Chuck one on some gang hooks and either send it down on a paternoster rig or float it behind the boat with a torpedo float. Use about 50cm of wire that is quite light but not to (mackerel will bite right through). I've never done this before, but that should be the go. If you want some more pelagics, check out some of the FADS on the GC, and chuck a line out for Mahi Mahi (Dolphinfish). Use live bait such as live slimy mackerel or yakkas (yellowtail). As well as this, i know on some of the reefs you can get cobia (black kingies) and a mixed bag of reefies. Sorry, i know that gets a bit off topic but in the Redcliffe area, I'd go with pillies for reefies or mackerel.
If you're using lures, i suggest checking out the measured mile in Moreton Bay. Here's a Team Madmullet Productions video that should get you started:
In general, I'd go with metals and spinning lures, and you might get the odd hit on a jig.
    Cheers Hamish

Went through the Tweed river bar a couple of mornings ago and out to the Fad. 1st drift we had a double hook up and my friends 2 kids caught their  1st dolphin fish. Next drift was the same double hook up and dollies jumping around us.
The new boats arriving drove fast straight up to the Fad and spooked the fish so it all went quiet. We decided to move back to the 9 mile reef where it was a lot calmer. 1st drift my friends son hooked up to a good snapper and after a dogged fight he reeled in his 1st snapper and a beauty at 66cm.

The bottom went quiet so we trolled around the 9 mile reef for some pelagic hoping for a Spanish or marlin but it wasn't to be.
We called it early and went back to the camp and filleted our catch. A big bbq fed plenty of family and friends at camp that night.

    G'day Ryannnnnnnn
If i were you I'd do something like this - only fish at high tide or drop in to a tackle shop and ask someone who knows what they're talking about what time it's safest to fish the creek - if everything hidden or exposed at low tide, to deep to hurt at high, etc. Until you know the lay of the creek, i wouldn't put in a night session either. Going slow is good as well. Then, while you're doing this, (if you fishing with someone else they can do it) make or plot on a map where dangerous terrain might be. Sorry, I'm no help at all with a map, I've never fished there at all.
For chasing your fish, I'd say use soft plastics, live bait if you have access to it and hard bodies. Rig the soft plastics weedless and as well as casting you can troll the hard bodies. When live baiting, rock up to a creek mouth or something and fishing the rising tide. If you're putting in a whole day session, fish from about 2 hours before (to catch bait) to high tide. If you're putting in a half day session or smaller, catch your bait about 2 hrs before the low tide then fish 2-3hrs on the rise. While i haven't fished there, i would assume this would be the method to try and catch them and it may need some fine tuning.
    Cheers Hamish

    Hi davostephens
Thanks for those tips on shovel nose, though i was fishing on the central coast so i caught a decent sized one with white spots i think. I've never tried using pike as livebait before, but if i do catch one that is a good size i'll certainly give it a crack. If i catch another i might see how it tastes, but thanks for the tips.

Well, the shovel nose shark flap meat is a known substitute for scallop meat so cook it the same as you would scallops. From memory pike are just a bunch of bones and I wouldn’t bother cooking them. Without knowing what the other undesirables are I can’t comment further. Good luck!

GregOug reacted to GregN70 in Wish List For 2020
My wish list for 2020 is:
1: To catch a legal sized mudcrab
2: To catch a Mackerel (Spotty, Spano, any)
    3: To catch a Barramundi
4: To catch a Threadfin Salmon
5: To catch anything other than a catfish, ANYTHING.
All 5 are seemingly impossible, but  i just keep on trying.
  25. Thanks
