queensland Mud Is fish I.D. Help

Hi all, went out to mud today. Pulled a few crabs and a legal squire before the storm and also got this fish amongst the squire. Any ideas?

yeap, large mouth nannygai / saddle tailed snapper / scarlet sea perch / red jew.

Not a common capture around there but I have caught several of them before. great chewing if you cna find one over their 40cm legal size.

Angus is right and it is actually a legal Red, and your boat + you are just giant.

Looking at this page I'd say its in between a juvenile and an adult large-mouth-nannygai - but will be interested to read others suggestions

Large mouth nannygai

the spot (saddle) on the tail and the distinct color shading give it away

Juvenile red emperor have very marked stripes - one over the head and face, one from top to bottom in the middle of the sides and covers the pectoral and anal fins , and one that goes from rear of dorsal fin to the lower ray of the caudal fin (tail)
