G'day to all, just saying hello, I am new to the site and fishing in general but keen to get amongst it. Have heard very good things about AFO, and I just couldn't miss out, and I thought it would be good to get some tips from the best. Have only touched on river fishing, but would like to know what would be a good setup to start off with..

There are often offers for fishing trips in the "Going Fishing" section of the forum. Dont hesitate to jump in a trip as its the best way to break the ice and learn some tips.

Hi Dave. Welcome to AFO.

In reference to your question about fishing gear, the answer depends on what sort of fishing you plan on doing and where you plan on doing it.

Probably the most common setup for estuary and river work is a

2-4 or 3-6kg rod with a 2500 to 4000 size spinning reel.

If you are into bait fishing, then good quality mono line and a glass style rod are a popular combo, but if using lures, then go for a graphite rod and braided style line.

If you are after some more specific advice or help with terminologies...just ask. There are plenty of us at AFO that will be more than happy to give you some tips.
