catching squid

Hi, I am just wondering if anyone knows much about catching squid or cuttlefish? Is it true that if a light is shined onto the water that this attracts them to the boat? Any help appreciated?

Lights on the water attract bait, and the bait attreact among other things the squid.

I have been more successful during the day though.

If you have a boat, fine any weed beds in the bay.

I prefer about 2-4 meters of water.

Then just start casting your jig.

Most hook ups are actually done by site as the squid will follow it all the way in. Just wait until you see its tenticles wrap around the barbs. Dont jerk the jig, slowly raise the rod and he will be snagged.

correct me if i am wrong, but i don't know of any sandy weed beds in the river. the brizzy river that is!

i read in another thread that people had been seeing a few out from the floating pontoon at newstead.

Have caught squid and cuttlefish at the mouth of the river as bycatch, using bait and plastics. Mostly around the reclaimed land, but also up as far as the sunken wall. All in daylight and none intentional.
