Circle hooks and sinkers.

Hey hope everyone is doing well, I've just a quick question I've been trying to find an answer to and maybe someone can help... When using circle hooks, what is the best way to use a sinker? I have just been letting it drop onto the eye of the hook as I do with baitholders but for some reason I get the feeling this is resulting in fewer hook ups. Would love to know how some of you tie your sinkers on when using circles.

Cheers

Alex.

i think u should just match ur sinker to the conditions and the rig your using. Running sinker is fine with circles, but if your fishing deep water with a current then a pastenoster with a heavier sinker might be the better option. Or if your not having luck trying putting the sinker above a swivel with 30-50cm trace. You can also try putting beads infront of the sinker so it slides along the trace easily.

I think the most important things with hook up rates for circles is 1) right hook size for target species 2) Make sure point of hook is well exposed 3) keep the rod tip high, as you feel the bite/pressure slowly lower the rod tip and allow the fish to swallow the bait, don't strike :)

all i use is circle hooks, whether i am chasing bream, snapper, sharks or tuna. to have then working properly you need the hook free swinging. their are afew knots you can use.....eg

the repala knot is the knot i use.

as for using sinkers, it is fine to have the sinker ontop of the hook, but my favourite personal tech is to have 1m of trace depending on what you are chasing and minimal weight so it isnt just anchored in the one spot, it should be wofting around. eg so it looks natural.

and remember when you get a bite or a run, dont strike, just lean back on your rod and let the hook do the work.

Thanks lads, you've been helpful! Yeah Kurt I seem to remember reading you only use circles, it was reading that, that gave me the idea to try them. Had some success the other day with them but yeah I was struggling to get the point to really show through my bait even with 4/0's and servo prawns. Not striking wasnt to hard, ay least not as hard as o thought it was going to be

Practice makes perfect I guess.
