hairtail in the coomera

went for a bash for a few hours on sat. arvo/night......caught the usual flatties , bream and catties but one fight was pretty full on when i hooked a hairtail not once but twice with the same mullet i had on as bait..... has anyone caught or heard of hairtail being in the coomera river.... this thing was also about 2m long..... interested to know

Never seen a hairtail but plenty of pike eels :dry:

Hairtail are good eating though, caught one off shore from Caloundra last year. I was sceptical, but the captian insisted we keep it. Chopped it up into steaks and tasted great.

Yep havnt been to the coomera for a while but there was plenty

of hairtail there and good fun to catch, although never considered eating them

i picked one up at jacobs well one night a couple years ago, scary face on it...

a few people target Hairtail on lures and fly successfully on the coast at certain times of the year.

Most fisherman are cagey ( for good reason ) about where and what time of year.

We have hooked them on diving lures and plastics, wire is essential as they have a taste for your favourite jack lures :blush:

trust me in winter they become a pain in the ass when chasin other fish especially around the broady they will eat about anythin

cheers but i found out for sure it was a hairtail....very similar to the pike eel but alot shinier

Hairtail are very common in Trinity Inlet in Cairns in winter. We mostly get them on hardbodies at night under lights and they are good eating. The good thing is they are not slimey like pike eels.
