towing drag net

even if its not good luck.

Ive been the poor buny on the wet end of the drag net. There is a hell of a lot of force on these. It would be very very difficult in a kayak, not to mention you need to still keep the bottom of the net on the floor of the river.

the method of useing a drag net is to tie the lead wieghted rope off to your ankle and you hold the floated rope in the hand and the foot with the rope around it drags along the bottom.make sure the foot doeasnt lift to create a step motion and the hand with the rope in it will jig the rope making the floats make a skish sound on top off the water to keep mullet/gar down and ahead of the net other wise they feel the net and just jump over the floats somtimes. the bloke on the shore end of the net shouldn't be afraid to get the boys wet either.

the idea of it is to make a semi circle or a broard horse shoe effect in the net before draging it a shore. a good trick for the bloke out deep doin the dragin is too hold a surf rod in the other hand that isnt holding the rope and to gently wake the surface out wide of the net this will stop a lot bait fish swimming wide around the net bypassing it before the horse shoe shape has formed in the net.
