In relation to my recent thread on saltist demon bloods, I'm now scratching my head trying to work out what the deal with leader for popping and jigging is.

Ok so im using catalina '12' 4000 with daiwa tournament accudepth hyper pe in 50lb and the demon blood 72MH.

So my question is what would be a suitable leader to run for say popping for trevs and the like around pt lookout? do you use wind on leaders for this or just tie them yourself? and is it the same for jigging?

what sort of breaking strain would be sufficient without being over the top for this particular area? and mono or fluro?

i would probably go around the 70 - 80 pnd mark....keepin it in tune with what you're using.......wind on leader also

I use 30lb leader on that sort of set up and have caught a few good local Gt's on it including the one in my profile pic and have never lost one due to the leader being an issue. Having said that i'm usually rigged for plastics hence the lighter leader if you were just interested in topwater popping etc then 60lb Flurocarbon would be more than enough.

Also get yourself a bobbin and learn the PR knot and you'll never use wind on leaders again.

the fluro doesn't cause any issues with the poppers as it sinks quite fast? i know using light fluro on my bream/bass top waters it drags them under.

Doesn't effect it at all mate.
