Has anyone fished the sunken wall Brisbane river using a yak? What sort of fish can one catch and is it a easy spot to get to by kayak? Also what is the best method to fish the area.

Hmm people would have but the current is extremely strong their. You would catch Squire/Snapper and Bream mainly but theirs chance of other fish. Its not going to be easy to get their by kayak because of the current and the wash of the ships and other big boats. In a boat your ok buy i wouldnt do it in a kayak. Soft Plastics would work well in Nuclear Chicken or be lazy and Soak a squid on a size 2/0 or 4/0 wide gap.

If you did use an anchor either a weighted Sandbag on 30metres of rope or a Dumbell or a Folding Grapnel Anchor. I would reccomend a 4Kg Sandbag because it wont get caught on reef and things. Use 30metres of 4 or 6mm rope

Easy enough to get to. Fo rsure you can launch at the White island boat ramp, head under the bridge and go straight across the river and you at the wall. You might be able to launch from the car ferry ramp, or the police / vmr etc, if you ask nicely, about 500m closer. Then literally only 200m across the river.

Can get a very nasty 3 foot chop if tide is against a stiff north easterly wind, otherwise ok. Mid tide flow is probably 3 to 4 knots.

Had a look on google earth. One can launch your yak from Boggy Creek and it's not that far to kayak around.

Were would you recomend tying the rope to my yak, the rear or front?

Back so your facing the tide. Do you have a Grab line? Tie it to that. If not go to Bias or Whitworths and buy a Bollard. Screw it to your kayak and seal it with sikaflex and thats a good tie of point.

Need to get my hands on a sand bag and some rope now. Will probably give it a go this weekend. At the moment I just tend to drift fish, but you are always looking out for boats.

If you want use a dumbell Whatevers easiest. If you just use a Hessian Bag you could use anything Pebbles, Gravel. Anything really.

I have fished the wall several dozen times from a yak.Mostly I have trolled along it, and caught squire,bream ,flathead and Estuary Cod, but have also bait fished by anchoring up and have caught bream using mullet strips.

And to access this area I launch at Pinkenba boat ramp, and just troll all the way up to it.

I've fished there before, I launched at the Pinkenba boat ramp and paddled down. The current wasn't that bad on the day. Got a few catties and a few hits from what I suspect were Breambos. Just watch the wash from those tugs and big ships.

I still have not got round to fishing there yet but will give it a go one day. Is fishing off the far end of fishermans island any good?

me and troy padddled out to the end of the wall once, we were sooooooo stuffed and we diddnt catch a fish all day, never doin it again
