Lucky New Rod

A couple of weeks ago i bought a starlo stick from ando_04 and immediately it became my new lucky rod.

After a fairly unsuccessful trip at mud island last week we chose to stop at the rock wall at the brisbane river mouth. We were flicking a few plastics around and within two casts i was onto my first ever legal brissie river snapper. It took out at least 15m of drag straight back to the wall and i was sure that i was going to lose it. after a few tense moments the fish turned around and it was safely boated.

The second good fish caught on this rod in as many weeks was my first ever legal yellowbelly (and first on a lure) caught at NPD this afternoon. After taking Tim's advice we headed to a bank with a decent drop off and again i started to flick some plastics around while Will chose to cast the Jackall he had found a while ago. after my third cast i hooked up to what felt like a freight train that screamed of 20m of line before giving up and acting like a wet sock. The fish went 47cm and was released after a few short pictures.

Both of these fish were caught on 10lb fireline with an 8lb flurocarbon leader

Nice squire aswell!

Any ideas on what it was on? pretty looking fish too.

the squire was caught on a 3inch berkley powerbait minnow in pumkinseed.

and the yellowbelly was caught on a 4inch storm rattle grub

in both cases the jigheads were TT's 1/8 ounce with a 1/0 hook

it's the squidgy spin medium 2-5kg

!!Oh i forgot to mention one thing the very first drop at mud island i got smoked by a big mackeral which bit me off after a drag screaming pull!!

Nice one mate.

Both my dad and I use Starlo Sticks and i love them. I will prob get something with more finesse down the track, but for my style of breaming off rocks and bass fishing in the yak etc they are perfect.

Thats all I use and I have caught some nice fish on them for the price I will keep using them they are great for lure fishing

a new rod will usually bring some good luck. i caught my first flattie last year the first time fishing with my procyon and symeter combo and i got my biggest yella the third trip with my new loomis, than the first cod the 2nd trip with my loomis in saltwater

Probably because it is a better rod for the fish you want to target than you had before, so you can feel bites better, work the lure better etc.

to save money, go EBAY or jp based tackle stores. but if u r not experienced enough to know what tackle ur really after, buy them from local shops.

yeah ur right cowfish. people go buys new rods for their target species and with a better understanding of the fish than before, they usually get a very suitable rod and catch more fish

I won't claim it's the \"beest\":silly: , but Amart has Starlo Stix same as in this story and other sizes all at $85.00 at the moment.

Most bigger tackle stores will have a range of products to suit budgets.
