Hey guys and girls.

Looking at getting a downrigger this year. Just after some advice before i purchase. I expect ill need something pretty ridgid as ill be targeting Doggies with it along with billies ajd pelagics. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Not really much help but does it have to be more solid than usual? I know how brutal diggies can be but isn't the whole idea that you use a release clip to release your mainline once you hook up?

Gday @fifis101 Yep thats true but the rod holder attached to the downrigger is what im worried about. Not sure about setting it up and whether u can run the rod on a seperate holder. Cheers mate

I think some downriggers have a rod holder mounted on top of them but I can't say I'd use them, they wouldn't be strong enough for what you're after. There shouldn't be an issue having the rod in a separate rod holder to the downrigger. You can even run more than one rod off the same downrigger but I'd be far to worried about tangles doign that.
