Even the gates were gold and gem encrusted. There are pearls, diamonds, rubies and emeralds there .

They sometimes fall out due to expansion and people just pick them up and hand them in.

They have a very low crime rate due to their religion and harsh penalties. If you are non Muslim you are dealt with through normal legal system but if you are Muslim you go through the Muslim system which is worse. When we were there an Thai worker was caught stealing a mobile phone and he got one months jail, heavy fine and 3 strokes of the cane and was then to be deported.

Water village. It has 27000 inhabitants. They are not allowed to build new homes. They are allowed to expand an existing one and to repair it but if it becomes uninhabitable they have to move to the mainland where the sultan gives them land and a new house. There is power and water and sewerage connected. Even a school and a hospital there. Most people commute to town via water taxi.

Fishing boat just arrived at market he was still sorting catch from nets. A lot of the boats with dual motors still use tiller steering and the fisherman stands up and controls each motor independantly.
