  1. and got to try out one of his new prawn placcies too. Look the goods and were smashed by the bream.
  2. Fished around mud for not a lot but then we happened to be right on the spot where some tuba started busting up the bait that had been hanging around the boat. Unfortunately we only had 1 swipe for the 30odd minutes that we had a chance to cast up them. They kept popping up and down but were within casting range for a few of them. Nothing on 14gm chrome or 60gm chrome. So we ducked up into some mangroves for a few flicks to see if we could find flatties but nothing of size. Just a few bream were brought up while skipping casts under the shadows. That was enough to make the session worth it. Love that kind of fishing where you skip cast too far in and panic that it's too deep so quickly crank the plastic out and you can see the bream chase it on its way out. There's gotta be jacks there in summer so will have to go back and give it a good crack when it heats up And how good is the classic 3" armour shad in skin blue @Zim man
  3. Trip 2 was Friday morning. Hit the water at 4:15 and back at the ramp at 9 so I could get to work. Got to head out with an old work colleague who just started boating so have been showing him around the bay a bit. Sunrise was pretty beautiful.
  4. but nothing to write home about with those yabbies. Caught a few bream and tarwhine but no whiting. But man - it's a cracking spot for a lazy afternoon fishing session. Had to call it early because the sun was dipping and the breeze was picking up. Didn't want to be completely soaked on the run home so took our time slowly putted back. I think I'm gonna try and take my kids there next. They'll probably fish better than my mates did
  5. Tide dropped off so sent the boys on a yabbie pumping mission. Man - those flats that you can only get to by boat are stacked with huge yabbies. Also was interesting to see the creek is going to be cutting itself off soon. It's starting to form a shortcut over the mudflats and cutting off the sharp bend.
  6. Have done a couple of trips recently and only finding time now to share the quick stories and a few pics. Trip 1 It was my best mates little's brothers birthday and he's on the cusp of being a dad so we used that as an excuse to get out for a sneaky fish. A launch at 1pm at Manly harbour in 10 knot winds was pretty uneventful, but getting around the rock wall, my memories were reconfirmed - 10knots in my tinny sucks A careful run across to Lota Creek to fish the falling tide and then pump some yabbies when the banks were exposed was our plan. I really do enjoy teaching and showing people better fishing techniques and skills and then seeing it turn into catches. Lota creek can be hit and miss but man it can have a wild mix of fish in there.
  7. sorry - it's been ages since I've done it. but that circle just off dunwich - lots of seagrass there. Have seen a kingy eat a squid that was swimming along the top there. Angus and I almost wet ourselves And i've done OK landbased for squid there so must be ok with a boat. The 2nd bigger area - somewhere around there was a massive weedbed in 2-4m of water. Years ago there was a floating dock that was anchored out there. About 50m south of it, we found squid. I can't remember who was fishing with me (kriso? or Benno?) but we lobbed the big tigers we caught at the floating dock and found kingies under the dock. Got a hook up but didn't land any.
  8. drift to find them. anchor if you hit a honey hole or your drift is too fast.
  9. Hey Sneaky - there's a guy called Slazmo based at the Gold Coast. You can find him on FB or I can pass the details if you can't find him. Send him the details and he will be all over it. This is the guy that I know lots of top end owners will send their reels to (megabass, exists, stellas etc).
  10. Definitely best during winter Brian but are around all year. I'm no expert but have a few spots that go on fire at certain times. The seagrass beds from Dunwich heading south seem to always hold each time I've tried but I've only done it a handful of times tbh.
  11. It's not just the cheaper reals that get geary. All the top end real4 daiwas from back in the day got geary but it was just part and parcel of how they were made. Didn't cause any issues and in fact those reels are in demand atm. Can't find a decent quality certate of that era anywhere. Haven't been able to for ages. My 2 exists are geary and my luvito is starting to now as well. Just sharing that there are many possible reasons why.
  12. Man. Living the life Sam. So good.
  13. yeah when I used to go with Angus, I never committed to throwing the big stuff off deadies/frenchies. Would get distracted on the light stuff, but should have committed to going with the big GT Popping gear. Got absolutely railed off the gorge on 2500 gear. Stripped the line in 1 run and visibly smoked coming off the spool. Suspect it was a GT because we spotted a school cruising in tight but never got to actually see what was hooked on the other side. I want my revenge....
  14. Can't remember the business name but used a gent by the name of Shane to fix my 25hp 2 stroke merc. It wouldn't start and over the phone he guessed what the problem was, then came and fixed it. It was exactly what he suspected - a dirty carb that just needed a clean. He was at my house at 7am and had it sorted by around 730. 0447 759 409.
  15. beast Geets off the rock Sam. Have you hooked up to the +1m ones out there yet?
  16. Fish and Venison on a single trip we can only dream. Hopefully this La Nina forecasted season gets the dams back up to level soon mate. I'm sure the receding waters are making it physically tougher and tougher on you.
  17. Oh s***! Oh man. What a loss and I'm sorry to hear. I never ended up attending any over the overnight beach camping sessions but have been to a few of the winter camp and other overnighters when Lance was in attendance. Definitely had a few laughs with him over a few beers and whiskys while decked out in my onesie and panda hat His knowledge of fishing and the industry was immense and it's at a-whole-nother level when you start talking deep water stuff. Sincerest condolences to family and friends and it's a large loss to AFO. RIP Lance.
  18. It looks like you should have it (360 or stern light depending on craft) on at all times when dark - https://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Safety/Navigation-lights.aspx Have seen the police at a few ramps around brisbane handing our warnings and fines for boats heading out at dark without appropriate lights.
  19. And as Ray mentioned in his thread - bring on the reclaw in the dams!!!! Might have to find a leccy only tinny to buy so i can get into them when they come on.
  20. Still a bloody legend as always Ray. Great tally for the day and im sure lots of people will appreciate the extra help with those coordinates. How have the redclaw been over the last couple of years mate?
  21. ski lice is a problem in the Nerang. Even in the 6knot zones. It will be worse during school holidays I guess.
  22. sure can. Bait jigs have 6 or 8 hooks ... can't remember exactly... haven't used a bait jig in a while.
  23. Yo BmB, I will kindly disagree with you here You're on the right track in terms of trying to understand the things that impact your fishing, but I would disagree with your findings or interpretations. Even in the article, the author is talking about the reel size in perspective of finesse bream fishing. Not general fishing. It's a whole different ball game when you want to get into talking about finesse bream/tournament bream.
