  1. Download map18 Capricorn bunker group. Gives you all of the green zones around the area. Plenty of fishing to be had around there. Massive lagoon to anchor in. Map 18 I've never stepped foot on the island as such so can't comment there but the fishing is good around it. Not hard to get a feed. That time of year should see good weather too. Latley the weather has been terrible. Only very small pockets to head out. This week coming up looks good but I have to work. Hopefully it holds off till the following week.
  2. Nooo. Surely not. Squid jigs would be able to get down there though.
  3. A mate had his bucks 4 weeks ago. Charter off DI. Was good fun. I have nothing for activities up stanthorp way but as pranks he had to use a spin reel with left hand wind cause he is right handed, he had a pink too too, pink mullet wig, florrel bra, and when we got off the boat one of the boys managed to get a 14lb bowling ball with about 80mm of 10mm anchor chain dyna bolted to it. When the buck wasn't ready it was padlocked to his ankle so he had to drag it around all afternoon and night. Funny as to see. Poor bastard had a bruised ankle the next morning, and we hid the key when we were extremely inebriated so finding it was fun too. Good luck...and make sure it is one to remember.
  4. I wish I could get out for 120 days every year. Offshore not effected though, is it? If this rubbish passes that is.
  5. Wow. That is amazing. Hahaha. Had to try one of these gif things. Never noticed it before.
  6. Nomad Nomad sportfishing Reality charters Reality charters.
  7. Loved it. They looked just like the dream team when they had NSW on the line and the crowd was behind them for that 10min or so. Awesome to see. My guess is we are looking at the new dynasty of QLD players. YEEWWWWWW!
  8. Olay. 1. Because knitting sucks. 2. Charged with adrenalin/excited. 3. A smoko shop offshore. That would be cool. 4. See ya later.
  9. I'm jealous. I was up there a couple of weeks ago in the last lull.....well...still blew like a banshee but we just went. We anchored at fitzroy. Lucky cause one boat at boult was picked up and turned 180 on the anchor in the protected side. Swell just ran over the reef. So food for thought if the swell is up and big tides. Hope it's not for you. I'll be up there in a couple of weeks again. Watch the bar. It's straight out now...not round the headland. Caught me out...

    Fish Alarm

Can I ask what you use the fish alarm for, other than the obvious? Personally I hate the alarm. Never used it on any unit.
  11. Yep. Spotted scat or similar.
  12. Well there you go. All the years fishing this area and no one I know (all 4 of them ) has ever caught one, or even spoken about them. You'd think they would be a more popular target species around here.

Good on you dash and welcome.
  14. Agree. You need to work out what your priority fishing is going to be and get an outfit for that. For me, around Moreton bay and offshore Straddie and Moreton I use a 4000 certate hyper on a loomis SJR 843 IMX. 35lb gosen braid and it will stop most fish down here. Big kings will give it a flogging but it loves it. Great jack outfit too. Lock the drag and battle on. As for popping for GTs. Ahhh. No. Hell no. Dogfight 8000 high speed on a saltiga x or similar. 80lb braid and go pull in moby ****.
  15. Cracka bone there Geoff. Trophy fish for sure. You're only the second person I have heard of to catch a bone over here. I never knew they were here till a bloke pulled one in on Fraser a few yrs back. I thought they were a WA species, like DUI's. Well done on all the fish.
  16. Just had another look at your cat. I love KC's. Do you lose rods at any time out of the rocket launchers when travelling? Man they're racked back. Been in plenty of kevla's and never noticed the launchers to be so raked. I know they ride smooth as silk so this may be your saving grace. My mates old reef boss had launchers like that and rough weather they would bounce out. I always left my rods on the deck when travelling. Must also find it difficult to cast without a collision of rods.
  17. You don't have to be out there early mate. You've just gotta be out there. Fish aren't humans on a work schedule. For what it is worth, I've caught most of my big fish in the middle of the day. Oh, try leaving the anchor in the boat when at harries. It is a big area.
  18. Nah....plastics are no good out there, trust me. I sell used cars. Nice fish. Lucky to get a break in the weather tbh. Been blowing like Bowen for nearly 3 months a little further up.
  19. Call in a speak to someone, with boat in tow. Arnold's fiberglass or someone like that will steer you the correct way.
  20. Geez, only 6:18am and already I've learnt enough for 5 days. What a great thread. Be interested to see the results reg the age. Never eaten hussar, always traded them in but that one would yeald some nice fillets. That Moses looks like a beast. I wouldn't have let out the camera trick secret.
  21. Maybe have a chat to someone like Arnolds fiberglass. I know he is very familiar with those hulls. I would be renewing the transom at the same time if you go the bolt on pod option. The weight of the jacking plate won't be anywhere near as bad as moving the motor back 500mm. The plate only weighs about 30kg from memory. But that motor going back 500mm will need more weight up front to counter it.....or else the vessel may/will porpoise. That motor would nearly be that hulls max hp. Things get realy touchy on those older hulls when making big changes like moving engines.
  22. That's a mission building a pod and a lot of time off the water. You can get jacking plates for around $800. That will do the trick....no moding the hull either.
