  1. Welcome to the forum Steve. I am not from around there but I’d imagine if you caught some yabbies you would have success. Google Maps would be a handy tool to suss out spots. Cheers Hamish
  2. Hi Myles You could use a Shimano Stradic reel, or Saragosa (although this would go over your budget). These would be capable of fishing large lures or live baits. A Shimano bait runner would suffice for bait fishing exclusively. An Abu Garcia overhead reel and Abu Garcia VeritS would make an OK lure fishing rod. I know someone who uses this combo with success. You could use rods such as a Shimano Raider, Atomic Arrowz Rod, or Abu Garcia Veritas (or Ugly Stik, if you plan to do only bait foshing). Cheers Hamish
  3. Good job Ray. Hopefully the thieves do not return. Cheers Hamish
  4. Hi Zolli If I’m completely honest with you Indro Bridge is not a great spot. There is a small platform accessible at the bridge end of the riverwalk on the Indro side, which you can fish off. High tide is better and it is snag ridden. There would be catfish and sharks. You can fish off the riverwalk although it’s quite high. On the Chelmer side of the bridge there is a muddy beach which you can cast net off, and catch whiting, mullet, biddies, and prawns. There are some OK fish and sharks under the bridge but like ellicat said it’s mostly catfish. If you do not have a cast net to catch livies I would use eel, or large fish chunks. Most of the catfish under the bridge are below thirty centimetres, anyways. Cheers Hamish
  5. Thanks for the clarification Benno. I never knew. I had many people tell me they were frogmouth pilchards. Cheers Hamish
  6. I actually have an explanation for this! In all of the categories of the forum, there are pages. At the bottom of each page there is a button that says read all. I only saw this recently when on the forum. So I must’ve clicked it, and then the site showd that I’d read the topics. embarrassed!!!!
  7. Nice work Myles. Sounds like you caught some good fish. 90CM is huge for a canal GT. POIDH. Lol. If you wanted a spin combo you could get an Abu Garcia Veritas with a Shimano Stradic. Around a 4-7KG rod and 3000-4000 size reel. 20 or 30 pound braid. 30-80 pound leader depending on how big the fish are. If you’re using lures a lot of people have success on poppers, hardbodies, and soft plastics (ie sugarpen or zman grubz). If you’re fishing with live baits you’d want to try them unweighted and on the bottom. Big livies, like mullet, are supposedly ok. A lot of the questions you are asking you will need to experiment with yourself. Sometimes fish in different areas need different rigs. I wouldn’t buy a bait caster unless you’re exclusively using it with lures. They aren’t that much good with bait. Cheers Hamish
  8. Thanks Brian. Interesting. I didn’t even know Spangled Empereor were in Morton Bay, so I guess it’s possible. Possibly. Cheers Hamish p.S sorry for the late reply. I’ve been at my grandparents place in Victoria and the wifi here is pretty patchy.
  9. Great work Dino! That’s a whopper! Cheers Hamish
  10. Hi ShadowVenom Depending on your budget, an Abu Garcia Veritas in a 3-5KG size, or Atomic Arrows rod, would probably suit nicely. They are good all rounders for bait and lure fishing. In terms of reels, a Shimano Sienna, Nasci, Sahara, or Sedona in a 1000-3000 size would suffice. Good luck and Merry Christmas Hamish
  11. Great job! Those are some nice fish. Cheers Hamish
  12. Nice work KM. Those are some good winteries! Cheers Hamish
  13. Great work @tugger! That Marlin is stunning! Cheers Hamish
  14. Sounds like a bit of fun, @kmcrosby78! Shame there were so many catfish though. I know the feeling! Cheers Hamish
  15. Good sharks Chris! I’ll have to try a fair bit when I’m back in Brizzy (at grandparents in Victoria for Christmas) . And nice Trevally @Neil Stratford. Do you ever take deckies? Merry Christmas Hamish
  16. Good luck Ed. I hope you can find a nice house. Sounds like you will be moving somewhere where the fishing is great! Merry Christmas! Hamish
  17. Hi Tony That’s incredible! Those are some great fish. It must be so much fun to catch them. Those baitfish are called frogmouth pilchards. A half frogmouth pilchard is one of my favourite salmon baits. When they are dead they are very mushy though, and they don’t stay alive well after going through the net. Merry Christmas, Hamish
  18. Hi all With the year coming to an end I was wondering what everyone's best captures this year, and fishing goals for next year were. Here is the thread from last year - My goals from last year were - 1) 1M+ Thready out of the river. Whether it be on a boat, kayak, or landbased, I'll take it! - Done 2) More flatties on lures out of the brown snake off the kayak. Ideally, a new PB of 75CM+. Not done, but close (from Noosa River) 3) A Brisbane River Jewfish - Not Done 4) A 1.5M plus river Bull Shark. I know ideally you'd be fishing in the ocean for these ones, but one off the yak would be real good! Not Done And adding to the list of 'undones', I''m going to put: 5) A lure caught thready (from the river) 6) Some landbased squire - done 6) Catch any fish on a lure - done So, what are your goals for 2022? Cheers Hamish
  19. Great work @Chamelion! Those are some solid fish. Did you get them on lures or bait? Cheers Hamish
  20. Hi all I just wanted to wish everyone on here a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope everyone has a great holiday and catches some fish! Cheers Hamish
  21. Thanks! You definitively should have. Thanks Steve. It was sure a fun day. Thanks Kat! Well I woke up at 3:20AM and met up with everyone at four. So technically 3:20AM is the earliest I've woken up. Thanks KM. Cheers Hamish
  22. Great work Ray. Those are some good fish! Cheers Hamish
  23. Thanks for the tips Ray. I will definitely start doing this at times. I should do this more. I may catch more crabs that way I guess. Cheers Hamish
