Spotted ray

hey guys, was fishing at newstead last week and hooked something real big. After an hour battle on my light rod, \"they always take the light rod\". After being nearly spooled twice we managed to get a look at the monster. It was a ray over a metre wide with spots all over it. Does anybody know what they are? They are not the usual dark green brown rays you normaly get in the river.

could it have been a blue spotted lagoon ray? they like sandy bottoms and can change their colour from light to dark- they're not that big as rays go, but a meter doesn't sound impossible...

yeah ice sounds like a leopard ray. We used to get a few in the fitzroy at Rocky. Generally would fight clean rather than sucking to the bottom.

What colour was it?

If it was yellow and had a massive tail, it would have been a Coach-Whip Ray

yeah massive tail a couple of metres long, my mate was trying to grab the leader to drag him up for a photo but didn't want to get tagged by the tail.
