How to install a bowmount on my "new" boat

Well I finally got a NPD potential!!!!

It's an old Dehavilland 3.5m job on a trailer and got it cheap (SWMBO was mildly happy with that).

The only problem I have is that it doesn't have a bow plate to attach a quick release bracket. Anyone got some ideas on what would be the easiest way to build some sort of bracket (I am in no way am aluminium welder and I reckon the boat would melt if welding was attempted).

My thoughts were to rivet a section of checker plate, but that may not be strong enough.

Cheers

Why not use plywood? That is what feral used on the AFO boat and it worked a treat. If you use ally unless you reinforce it it will flex everytime you apply power.

If you do not have any I should be able to supply a bit and if you want to come to redland bay I would be able to give you a hand to cut and fit it gratis.

Ray, that is very generous of you and I might take you up on it.

I have some honeycomb fibreglass off-cuts (other boat project :)) but haven't checked to see if there is enough to fit.

One of these days I'll put my permit to good use :)
