Hi can anyone tell me how safe it is to do a night fish around Newstead park at night by yourself? Do you have to worry about your car getting broken into and getting hasseled from drunks ect. Want to go for a fish but dont want to be looking over my shoulder all the time lol.

I fished there and around breff wharf at midnight quite often before and nothing bad has happened to me.

There are always other fishos, but I always fish with my mate at night

I would not suggest fishing alone at midnight, or if you had hooked a big fish you still hv a buddy helps you to land it.

Hi mate, there are usually other fishos there and the odd homeless that sleeps under the shelter. Carparking is fine, rarely that drunks are there. Im more concerned about the haunted newstead house. Just avoid looking up there.... i always avoid lookin up at the house when im alone.

Better to bring a mate anyway. Its seems pretty safe but havin to look back all the time is a pain in the @ss.

Cheers

like taib said, avoid looking at the newstead house at all costs. Try not to think about it, well, its probably going to be hard now that we've mentioned it. Fished there quite often back in the days, never had a problem except for on some occasions, it felt like someone was watching me at under the lights near the pontoons.

One time as I was heading back to the car, i bumped into an old guy who looked homeless. I was worried so I walked a bit faster and when I looked back he had disappeared.

Goodluck, landed some big threadies by myself there.

As Pauline once said.....please explain....apparently I`ve fished there in total ignorant bliss

Saffa put a going fishing post up,if unsure of some spots, you`ll find there will nearly always be some one who wants to go for a fish and socialise :) and/or have their hand held

 :woohoo:

Thanks for the advice guys. I will try not to look at the Newstead House at night  just in case. As for someone giving me grief while fishing they may end up going for a nice swim  . I ended up fishing at Bullimba last night. Caught two cat fish and a shovel nose. The bloke next to me hooked a 38 cm snapper he was well chuffed. Going out tonight again, will be going to Colmslie to get some livies and then decide where to go from there.

Don't be put off fishing at night there. There is a resident homeless guy who has a laptop.

Plus there's some entertainment when this old fella fishes there with a couple of beers and some mates. He'll abuse any boats that comes a little too near the pontoon, good for a laugh :P

Have fished there on many occasions at night, no problems.

Can't remember if its Friday or Saturday nights but if its charter boat season then you'll have to put up with bringing in line for an hour or so.

Totally safe mate, and some good fish to be caught if you're willing to put in the hours. Personally, i'm over live baiting there, but give it a crack. It can definitely be worth it. You might see me there flicking lures around the banks.

The one thing that is true about ghosts is they are very scared of sceptics and will hide themselves from them everytime. So just get sceptical and you'll be safe from them for sure ;)

3 weeks before the Port Arthur masacre my wife, first baby and I attended the Ghost evening tour.

Whilst standing on the porch outside one of the haunted buildings we were listening to the guide telling us scary stories when a woman fainted and landed on my left foot. Believe it, or not.   :woohoo: :S

sorry to be persistant in my curiosity, the line "avoid looking at the newstead house at all costs" is that a bit like if there`s a bump/knock in your house in the middle of the night,if you pull the sheet up over your head no one can see you?? :pinch:

I've found that fishing with quite a bit of weight works well there- usually i like to fish light but don't be afraid to break out the snapper weights if there is a big tidal run as the water really churns through there. I've never had any grief in the area (i live about 400m away). As for the house being haunted- of course it is, aren't all old houses

Well, if you cant see it, it doesnt exist. The more you stare at it, the more chances you will see something.

Before I was aware of it being haunted, I parked my car alongside next to the house. Every time I walk by I get a chill, even when I'm with friends. The last time I parked my car up there was when I caught a my first metre plus thready and was given another 90cm thready because the guy who caught it couldn't be bothered bringing it home. So, imagine a 65kg skinny, medium build, 170cm tall person trying to carry 2 threadies, a 12 ft cast net and 2 rods and a tackle bag in one go. Felt a sudden chill, looked over towards the house and gunned it. threw everything in the car and the next day it smelt like fish and saltwater. Went home and did someone research and shat myself.

Is that guy with the laptop really homeless? He looks scruffy but I thought he was just there enjoying the smell of the brisbane river and charging his laptop at the same time.
