Bribie Ocean side 7 July - more success this

I fished Bribie ocean side today with a couple of fellow yakkers from akff this is how we went

I woke to the sound of the alarm at 5am, got up all excited at the prospect of hopefully chasing some tuna and getting myself a squire or two. Jumped in the already packed car and headed straight for 8th ave our launching location, I arrived around 6am to find both Michael (HBK) and Jim (JimH) already with there yaks off the roof and getting ready for the day ahead. We all introduced ourselves and headed for the beach and our launch through the scary 1ft swell

All three of us headed for the beacon where 2 stink boats were already anchored bottom bashing. We started throwing some plastics around in the hope of a few squire. Michael kicked the day off with a little flathead around 35 cm just minutes after starting. a few minutes later I had a good hit and short run but didn't hook. next cast and I was on and I new it was a squire with that typical head thump a few quick runs later and I boated a nice little squire and thought this might just go legal borrowed Jims measure stick and he went 34cm so a quick pic and back he went. My day had been made already with my first squire on a plastic. minutes later and I was on again and this fish felt a lot better it took a few long runs and really fought hard after a few minutes I boated another squire and this was a little bigger than than last but was hooked in the eye which explains his hard fight.

first legal Squire on a plastic I was now the happiest man on the bay I reckon.

boated him michael took a pic and in the esky he went

after this I had a good look around to see if there was any surface action around but not a single boil or bird could be seen so on with the squire I went.

only a matter of a few casts later and I had a nice hit that pulled about 1M of line and 1 wind of the handle later and I was hit by what could only be described as a freight train (well it felt like one anyway). this was no little squire but the head thumps were there. Im onto a good fish here I thought as my drag screamed and the fish towed me towards the beach michael followed me looking over my yak trying to get a glimpse of the fish which I was yet to sight after what seemed like 10 mins but was probly only 3 or so I finally got a glimpse of the fish down through the clear water and I instantly new I had a PB Snapper on and was just hoping it would stay that way. I got him along side the yak grabbed my lip grippers at which point the fish decided he had one last run in him and headed straight down taking a few metres of line then coming back to the surface belly up and I slipped the grippers into his mouth and boated a New PB witch later measured just over 62cm and 2.6Kg's. Michael took a few pics and in the esky he goes. :woohoo: (MAN THESE THINGS ARE FUN ON LIGHT GEAR) If I was the happiest man in the bay before I reckon I was the happiest man in QLD now.

At this point the two stink boats with the 6 or 7 blokes in them started looking a bit bemused as to why they weren't getting any LOL. ok time to get you one now I said to michael and like clockwork a few casts later and Michael was on and it looked like a good fish and gave him a bit of grief on the light gear. a few furious runs later and he boated a nice little squire that later measured 42cm and 1.2kg's. michael gave me his camera and I took a couple of pics for him and in the esky he went.

micheals fish which he later donated to me (thanks alot mate will go down well)

By this stage the stink boaters were starting to get the shits I think because they left shortly after. My hunger for squire had been slightly satisfied so I kept my eye out for some surface action but there just wasn't any no birds no boils nothing. so we kept at the squire but the only thing to grab our attention for the next good hour or so was a few dolphins that joined us briefly. No more action was had by 10:30am so we headed back myself and Michael with grins from ear to ear and Jim just happy to be out on the water on such a great morning.

The conditions were picturesque with little to no wind and a really slow current unlike last week which made for more fishing and less paddling. A great morning was had by all three of us and we all agreed that we would have to do it again soon.

Nice to meet up with 2 new blokes and put names to faces.

Michael has a few great shots from out on the water that I will update this post with as soon as he emails them to me.

Thanks a lot
