Barred Grunter juvie?

Hi guys, I was collecting some fish for the pond recently and unbeknownst to me until today was this little guy in amongst the gambusia and platies. Is it a baby barred grunter? Sorry about the pics that is about the best I can get of him.

A Tilapia hey? There you go. No the Gambusia are not for the pond the platies are. Sorry I should have clarified, in amongst the Gambusia and Platies in the trap, Gambusia get destroyed.

Good to hear, hate poeciliids myself cant understand why people keep ponds full of them, why not natives for your pond?

the good old australian rainbows, gobies and smelts. I had a few bullrouts. good fun. feed them lil gudgeons:)

I do have 2 bass and a barra all juvies, the platies are food for them. But I don't mind the little guys until they get eaten :evil: add a bit of colour while the natives are hiding. Do have to get my tank set up though so I can put my natives in there, then the pond will just become the breeding pool for feeders as it really isn't big enough for anything with a bit of size.

Yeah mate the Gambusia are just as bad as Tilapia.

cheaper to feed them the pest. i mean i used to have 6 fish tanks and it cost me 10bucks for 100 gudgeons. and $4 for 10 small shrimps. saves you a lot of money Ant, and you're killing the pest by catching them before they take out the smaller natives.

I've got an endless supply of feeders nearby, costs me nothing.

I'm going to try and get some purple spot gudgeons from a creek nearbyish, I know they are there just gotta catch them. Plenty of rainbows around the same creek too. I wouldn't mind a few tough plants to line the back and sides of the tank when it goes up.

Always the risk of disease when feeding any wild caught poeciliids be surprised at some of the things they carry. How big is your pond Rainbows, Gudgeons and Flyspecks all breed in mine make good feeders :evil:

get one of the shrimp traps with some bread/dry dog food in it and leave it sit for an hour or so, should come up with a whole lot of everything. gudgeons love sticking next to rocky walls ive found, or in weed beds.

Ah not real big elops about 140-150 litres, that's why I want to get the natives out before they get too big. What sort of diseases?

140 is small not ideal but could breed Rainbows.

Parasites more of a worry than diseases.

Some people collect and feed live vermin with no issues though.
