The "G" Spot......Fiji

Just returned from my annual 2 week pilgrimage to the fishing "mecca" of Fiji. This is about trip number 12 (I think). It didn't disappoint, with all of my favourite fish playing the game. Being the heavy popping addict that I am, obviously GT's were my main target. There were none the size of volkswagons like on previous trips, but stacks in the 20 to 30kg weight range. I've posted a few pics of average sized fish. Big schools of Yellowfin in the 6 to 8kg range were abundant as well. These were fun on light spin gear and large plastics. Best poppers were the Nomad "skipjack', Halco Rooster Haymaker, and my mates "old faithful" home made broomstick poppers!! He builds them tough and they catch plenty of fish!! Fished a totally different place than previous years, which has since become a marine reserve. The new area may account for the lack of seriously "big" fish, but they pulled bloody hard and I had a ball catching them!! Cheers....Dan

Launched the boat about 3 hours drive from savusavu which is on Vanua levu, Fiji's big main North Island. I fly there from Nadi, Viti Levu which is the big main south Island.
