Cabarita beach tailor run

Well I headed down to Cabarita beach for a few days to start off the holidays in hope of finding some fish off the beach. I had some very fun sessions on dawn and dusk and managed a feed of tailor on a couple of occasions. I spent most of my time spinning metal slugs with good results catching plenty of choppers and a few good dart. Biggest tailor were around the mid 50s and were great fun with their areal displays on a light surf outfit. There were also a few salmon around for anyone interested but unfortunately I didn’t manage to hook any of them. Definitely one of my favourite types of fishing!

I think freshly caught and bled Tailor are a highly under-rated table fish. Nice haul there mate..

How fast do you retrieve with the slugs? Might have a go tomorrow after work.

A high speed retrieve is my favourite technique but if things are quiet you can mix it up and try a steadier retrieve. They definitely went down well for dinner!
