Fishing with Runty

Had an epic past few days, reminiscent of what I had to put up whilst doing shift work. Long nights, minimum 10hour shifts and then staying up during the next day to wet a line.

Exam - Saturday morning 8.30am. Me - study from 10am Friday throughout the day and night until exam time. Finish around 10.30 and I'm home shortly after, browsing around facebook when I notice runty's online. Quick chat with him to see why he's not already on the water and he's convinced me to come out for a flick.

Keep in mind:

I've been up for just over 25 hours

Still need to go home change cars, go pick him up - goto ramp, launch etc etc so it'll be a while before we are even fishing

I despise weekend fishing - sorry Mon-Fri workers

Car/ramp/on-water traffic is so bad generally that even if I'm free I don't wanna fish

It's the middle of the day  I'm always up at sparrows and fish into the morning/whenever the fish stop biting then head home.

Basically it's everything I stand against but I threw caution at the wind and decided to head out!

By the time I swap cars it's around 12:15 and I have dinner at 6.30pm with the mrs and other friends too

So! Pickup the runtling - get some fuel - get some refreshments - and we're off and running.

Soon as we get near the spot birds are bombing and our hopes are high - none of my gear is rigged yet and Runty is firing off casts. We see a mac tuna chasing his hardbody but it turns away after a short distance and the birds disperse so onto the original plan - bream, flatties, tailor, trevs etc etc

We pick up fish slowly throughout the day - here are a few:

581473_10151109172857918_340550845_n.jpg - There's a 3" Fish Arrow Flash J Shad down there somewhere - hungry fella swallowed the whole thing, the jighead just had enough space otherwise my 3lb wouldn't have lasted.

Runty was into the action fast getting a few small tailor while i got busted off fishing plastics. Bream were hanging with the tailor schools which I'm not sure is common or not?

Ended the day with this trevor. Strangest fight ever - the fish were responding well to a certain retrive (read dead slow hops off the bottom with a heavier jighead 1/8th in my case)

Felt him nibbling on the plastic so let him have it, finally sucks it down and starts to swim away so I strike but it feels like a catfish or something. Slowly swimming towards me with a LOT of weight but not running. Slowly I pull him up and when he spots the boat takes the one and only run - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. After this he just swims/circles the boat for a few minutes as I make more and more line. A few tense moments were had before he hits the net and we are both surprised to see it.

Anyhoo we launched just after 1 and it's 4.30 by this time so we head back to the ramp. We see a shitload of birds bombing on the way back in but it's a damn washing machine - doesn't stop runty having a few casts but only landing micro-tailor so call it quits and head back.

Back at the ramp and only just late for dinner so i'm still in the good books :D

Dinner then hangout with friends and I crash around 10pm - 36hours no sleep and with work in the morning i wasn't feeling great but it was well worth it.

Thanks for the day out runty, thankyou for Rob(Zim_man) and Stu for providing me with the fish magnets - sorry runty but these things even outfished gulp shrimp! Can't wait to give them a bash in a longer sesh and see how many fish i can get out of each plastic. Had my first one upto 5 fish and it was fairly chewed up but was still fishable.

Thankyou for reading this too, i hope you made it to the bottom without it being too boring.
