Another trawler has gone down inside Fraser Island.

That's two in recent times.

Lance will have to go up and tell them how to do it right

The spelling and grammatical errors all belong to the ABC's top journo

Authorities save three fisherman who abandoned sinking trawler in waters off Fraser Island

By Alyse Edwards

Three fishermen have been rescued from a trawler that is sinking in waters off Fraser Island in south-east Queensland.

The Volunteer Marine Rescue Service (VMRS) says the 11-metre boat started taking on water around 3:00am (AEST), on the western side of the island, about four kilometres south of Kingfisher Bay.

The VMRS says the rescue took place in windy conditions with choppy seas.

They say the men are not hurt and are being taken to Hervey Bay, south of Bundaberg.

VMRS spokesman Colin Harris says the three men had been forced to jump ship and wait for rescuers in an inflatable boat.

He says the rough conditions will make a salvage effort of the trawler difficult.

"Whether that's even possible I'm not sure either because it's a 11-metre trawler and it's got a lot of water in it, so it will be very difficult to move," he said.
