Rod best for me

OK, first off a rod to correctly match an alvey has it`s reel winch at no more than 15-20cm from the butt end. These rods have an open runner above the reel winch to centre and take the tension off your finger when laying the line when retrieving.

Now, to get the best out of pairing the rod and reel, and just to add to it`s uniqueness, the size/style/model of alvey reel fairly well dictates the limited choices of rod you match your reel to.

If you do a google search for the Alvey reels website, some where early in their spiel they will/should/hopefully have all the info about matching rods to their reels.

Yes they also make their own brand of matching rods and Wilsons I assume still make rods to match Alveys. Then when you find that info out, you then match the rod with your reel, to your intended target species.

Or you could take your alley to your closest tackle store and ask for some ideas. You are under no obligation to buy, but you will at least get the chance to feel the rod and reel matching before you commit your hard earned. If you let the salesman know your budget and what sort of fish you are targeting and how and where you fish, you might walk out with a great set up at the right price. Get it right and you can keep that combo for many years. Get it wrong and you will be looking for a new rod again after a couple of trips. Good luck. :)
